Another Thread about Shadow of Mordor Not running
I had over twenty hours playing the game on a previous, much less powerful Windows 10 machine. After I got a Windows 11 with better hardware I figured I'd replay this game, only it doesn't launch.

I hit play, at most get a few seconds of black screen as the mouse turns into that little loading wheel, and then it closes on its own. No error messages, it just shuts down before it even actually starts.

I tried reinstalling the C++, no effect. Uninstalled and reinstalled four times, and verifying files doesn't do anything at all. Compatibility mode just gets me a message about this being an incompatible program, and trying to launch the executable from Programs x86 does not give me any fresh messages. Everything is updated as far as I'm aware.

I have an NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3070, and an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8 Core Processor. I should be very much above the minimum requirements for this game right now. All files have been installed. So why won't my computer let me revisit this fun game?

Hi, I have a similar issue. I boot up the game and I get a black box and then it shuts down. I think it has to do with resolution issues. I did manage to fix it once by unplugging the hdmi cable I have running to my PC and deleting the games folder in Documents/WB folder. If I try to play anything above 1920x1080 the game won't start up. My computer monitor is 2560x1440. My tv is 4k. I've looked around the internet and found some recommended fixes, but none have worked for me. The only option I have found is to unplug hdmi cable on tv and run the game at 1920x1080. That is also the resolution of my laptop and it has never had an issue booting, so I do think that is the nature of the problem.

I just found a solution that worked for me. I removed the game from my nvidia experience so that it didn't automatically optimize the game and set it to a higher resolution. I uninstalled the game, deleted the WB folder and then reinstalled. After that I restarted my PC.

The game launched in it's default resolution of 1920x1080 and I set it to windowed mode. After I did this, I set the resolution to match my monitor resolution of 2560x1440. Then, I set my display mode to mirror mode so that I could use my tv screen. The 4k resolution then appeared in the list and I changed it to that. The game now runs. I haven't yet exited and tried starting it again to see if the issue would come back though. Good luck!

Gave it a few different attempts, even lowered the resolution to a resolution or two below what my monitor actually does. No dice I'm afraid. Hell, I even tried buying it from GOG to see if installing from a different service would do the trick. Tried everything I can think of, from turning off the computer's GPU accelerator to messing around with the settings via notepad. It's not a problem of drivers being underpowered, or the resolution it's set to open with.

This game just simply does not want to work on the new computer even though by every measurement it should be able to run, and it doesn't give me a single error message for it so I would know what to correct. Just shuts down after at best giving me a black screen for a few seconds and claims I had it running for a few more seconds. And there are plenty of other games I've got that work perfectly fine on this machine, some made before and others made after Shadow of Mordor was released.

If anyone finds it helpful for some reason I never saw any "first time launching" process for some reason. If there's something missing though it isn't the C++ packet. I reinstalled those just to be sure.

I'll probably try again in a few months but this was a bit demoralizing for the moment, and I've got plenty more to do than just ram my head against a wall I can't even see.

Runs great on Ubuntu 22.04 with GOG version

I have an nvidia 3060 ti and win 11. game works without doing anything special.

try running nvidia geforce experience then optimize the game thru that then launch the game.

does the benchmark work?

maybe try monitor at 60 hz?

overclocking cpu/gpu? turn them back.

run game from game folder .exe and NOT from steam library or an icon. sometimes error msg or prompt appears not hidden by steam.

Ah, finally figured out what the problem was. Apparently it was crashing because the only wire connecting my PC to a monitor was the DP wire. As soon as I got an HDMI wire connected in everything went fine.

It had nothing to do with settings or what my computer was capable of. Just one little decision to have just one wire connected to the PC instead of the other. You'd think there'd be a warning about such an odd glitch.

And once again, the game refuses to load. I've been playing for some days without a single issue and now is just not working. It's like some file gets corrupted after some hours of gameplay.

GOG version also gives the same issue after some hours of gameplay.
