The game launched in it's default resolution of 1920x1080 and I set it to windowed mode. After I did this, I set the resolution to match my monitor resolution of 2560x1440. Then, I set my display mode to mirror mode so that I could use my tv screen. The 4k resolution then appeared in the list and I changed it to that. The game now runs. I haven't yet exited and tried starting it again to see if the issue would come back though. Good luck!
This game just simply does not want to work on the new computer even though by every measurement it should be able to run, and it doesn't give me a single error message for it so I would know what to correct. Just shuts down after at best giving me a black screen for a few seconds and claims I had it running for a few more seconds. And there are plenty of other games I've got that work perfectly fine on this machine, some made before and others made after Shadow of Mordor was released.
If anyone finds it helpful for some reason I never saw any "first time launching" process for some reason. If there's something missing though it isn't the C++ packet. I reinstalled those just to be sure.
I'll probably try again in a few months but this was a bit demoralizing for the moment, and I've got plenty more to do than just ram my head against a wall I can't even see.
try running nvidia geforce experience then optimize the game thru that then launch the game.
does the benchmark work?
maybe try monitor at 60 hz?
overclocking cpu/gpu? turn them back.
run game from game folder .exe and NOT from steam library or an icon. sometimes error msg or prompt appears not hidden by steam.
It had nothing to do with settings or what my computer was capable of. Just one little decision to have just one wire connected to the PC instead of the other. You'd think there'd be a warning about such an odd glitch.
GOG version also gives the same issue after some hours of gameplay.
