I'm a LotR fan. Good story, tons of action, mostly free roam that takes place in Udun. It does take liberties with Tolkien lore, specifically the concept of magic, for the sake of action. But it's great fun, and can be challenging. Probably one of my favorite games in the last 5 years.

I found that it plays a lot like Assassins Creed but with a better combat system. As far as I can tell (as someone who hasn't finished The Silmarillion) it's close enough to the lore while still being accessible for people who have just seen the movies.

So far I consider it to be one of the best purchases I've made on steam this year. I reccomend it.

The story is not the best. It's never really engaging or interresting, and it doesn't have great characters to back it up.

Luckily the gameplay makes up for it.

very good gameplay but terrible story (for me, and I am a LoTR fan)
You don't learn much, exept what happened in this zone during that time (not so much). to compare, it's like "Rogue One" for the Star wars saga. You don't learn much but it's still enjoyable.
But with thoses sales, yeah, go for it.

After running into two Lts who give you your first play stopping monolouge you really just get frustrated anytime a narration starts.

story is not bad, just mediocre, definitely not a buy for the story, only if you like this arkham city in mordor gameplay with the nemezis system, its pretty fun and worth on sale

You should get it, it's great. I'd say the story is decent but gameplay is excellent.

As Tolkien-fan, story felt good for me. Sure they took liberties and I would not consider this canon but developers have tied story in Tolkien Universe succesfully.

It is not anything groundbreaking and may feel basic but good gameplay balances it. And there is some twisted pleasure for making Urûks' life hell... 😈

Excellent story and one of my favorite games out of the 250+ games (215 on Steam) I own on PC.

It runs completely counter to the themes of LOTOR, with "power beating power" and "use the tools of the enemy against him" but it is a good game. If you are a hardcore Tolkien fan the story will probably drive you nuts, unless you though Boromir had the right idea all along.

The setting feels Mordorish, the nemesis system is a lot of fun, and I like the Arkham style gameplay better here than in any of the actual Arkham games.

Good prologue, a nice way to be "discovering the story" while you keep killing orcs and exploring areas. Ending is rushed and weak, I felt it was very poor in comparision on how the game starts.
Overall is good, the point of the game is in the branding and the free roam.
