No PlayStation Button Prompts?
I'm not using DS4Windows, so don't even start. Steam has integrated support for DS4 controllers and even when enabled and Steam realizes that I'm using a PS4 controller, this damned game still thinks I'm using a god-forsaken X-Box controller. I've never used an X-Box, and it keeps getting me killed during those "Last Chance" moments because I don't know what damn button to press. Why couldn't there just be a simple in-game option to select which interface I want? There are videos on YouTube of people playing the PC version with a DS4 and THEY have the correct button prompts. WTF?

Games have only started adding PS4 prompts after steam officially started supporting the DS4. This game came out long before that. If other people have the prompts then they have used a 3rd party mod. Although I've never actually seen any videos of this game on PC with the PS4 prompts.

Tbh this is a problem you are going to run into a lot on PC, the xbox pads have kind of become the standard pad for PC, most games dont offer particularly good support for others.

Well, this is the only AAA title I've bought in 2 years so I guess it's fine. I just can't merit buying their sequel since I can't even play the first. Sucks for them I guess. Moving on in life.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't get Shadow of War without playing this one first. Regardless of these specific games though, if you plan on playing PC games that are better with a controller you should get a 360 or Xbox One controller. With 360 controllers bear in mind that the wireless ones need a special USB receiver. Older Xbox one wireless pads also need a receiver to be used wirelessly or can be used with a micro USB cable. Newer Xbox one pads can be used with both the previous options plus bluetooth. Tbh though since you don't seem all that keen on them I'd say your best bet is to try and pick up a cheap wired Xbox 360 pad.

I've decided that I'm just going to look up whether games support the DS4 or not from now on, and if not, no sale. A wired controller wouldn't work for me anyway, since my computer is connected to a big screen TV on the other side of the room. And I already have a Bluetooth adapter for my DS4, not buying a special one for use with a controller that I don't even want.

Fair enough, it does mean you wont be playing 90%+ of PC games though. Like I said previously newer Xbox one pads can connect via bluetooth.
Biomechannibal Dec 6, 2017 @ 7:12am
No, it means I won't being playing 90% of the games would be better off played with a controller, as most PC games are better with a keyboard and mouse anyway. This just isn't one of them. Everyone talks like I'm a new PC gamer. Been doing this for.......when was using Hammer 3.5 to make maps for Half-Life (GldSrc) still a thing?

Sounds like you started around the same time I did 96-97. I obviously meant controller based games, although given that more and more are console ports these days that number is rising. These days gaming without an xbox controller just seems like making things uneccessarily awkward. I understand getting used to the new button layout is annoying but honestly as someone who uses Xbox controllers on PC and the PS4 controller on the PS4 the Xbox controllers are significanly better anyway imo. Better sticks, better build quality. I always feel like I'm one press away from snapping the triggers on the PS4 pad.

Y is triangle, B is circle, A is X and X is square. It's not that hard to adapt to. Especially if you don't switch back and forth all the time.
Biomechannibal Dec 6, 2017 @ 8:15pm
I've never switched back and forth at all. I've only ever owned PlayStations and Nintendos. Well, up until the Wii's game library sucked, then I built a new updated PC like a real man. (Had an old one, for late 90's PC games). The real problem is the mind ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of the game quick-time promting me to press "Blue X", which I then do. Only "Blue X" on a PlayStation controller is not the same button as on an X-Box. My own reflexes keep getting me killed, and if I stop to think about it, it's too late.

It works here on Linux, without pain. Maybe you have activated DS4 support from steam? This makes the games think they have a steam controller. :outlander:

I do have it activated through Steam. I said that in the OP. Steam understands that I'm using a DS4, but this particular game still gives me the X-Box prompts. This is known to happen when running the DS4Windows app, but I'm not using that anymore, as I no longer have to due to Steam supporting the controller itself. It's ok though, I only paid $3.00 for this during a sale. I'm not heartbroken and have moved on to other games. Still, chalk one up for Linux over Windows...

I know this is necro, but as someone that is familiar with Nintendo Switch controls and Playstation controls, using a playstation controller, I'm having to convert from dualshock to x-box controls and then getting confused between Switch and XBox button placement. It is hellish for quicktime events.

Thank you. I'm glad someone out there understands my pain, lol.

Hey, nexus has a mod that changes the on screen display to show playstation instead of xbox. Do a search in google for shadows of mordor mods dualshock 4. Should be one of the first sites. Plus, it wont mess up achievements. Hope it helps!

Yeah, it probably would help. This is an old thread though. By this point I already have 100% achievements on Shadow of War and have long since stopped playing either of these games. But I'm sure someone will still find it useful as I am obviously not the only one who was looking for this.
