The adapter would mean it will be detected as a generic 12 button controller with two sticks.

So not sure it would.

But I did play with a PS2 controller+USB adapter via "x360ce", which is an xbox controller emulator. The downside is you need to set it up, then place a couple of files into the game folder where the exe is, and when it works, you need to deal with the xbox button prompts in-game.

I did this for a lot of games because I refused to buy XBox controllers (I have since switched from my PS2+Adapter to off-brand xbone controllers), so it wasn't an issue since I used it for basically all the games where the Steam Store tag "Full Controller Support" just means "XBone or Steamcontroller only though". I had the layout memorized, is my point.
But I also get the turnoff of being confused by the prompts at first.

Anyway, that tool has served me well (only a couple of games didn't accept the hook - mostly Unity games (since they work without the common xinput.dlls for some reason)) in such games that only have decent xbox support.

Edit: The point is, "x360ce" makes the game think the controller is an official Xbox controller and will treat it as such. And provided you have set it up correctly (since the layout is basically 100% the same, this shouldn't be hard) you can use it as one. I have done so for Mordor and it works, but may be a bit fiddly to get going.

I tryed to play Borderlands with a PS2 gamepad , maps were mapped wrong . My point is that the best device to play Windows games is X-box or analoge like Logitech F510

If your adapter+controller is detected by Windows (I assume you use Win), this means that you can configure it in x360ce. It doesn't matter what brand or what model. If it works within your OS as a generic controller (or however Windows detects it - check "Control Panel>Devices and Printers". If your controller is detected there as a control pad, it will work with x360ce)
