2) Play with notifications and combat hints on, at least at first. When you get really good, you can turn them off ;-)
3) Master parrying (Y) and dodging/flipping (A). If you just try to stand there and hit the orcs, you're dead, dead, dead, and you won't bea ble to run around without getting hit. You *need* to parry and dodge all the time; get into a rhythm of striking, parrying, and dodging. If you watch a YouTube vid of people playing at high levels, you'll see that they're constantly in motion in combat.
4) Use executions and other special moves liberally. When I start a fight, I generally bounce around and hit a few guys to get my combo counter up (make sure you prioritize unlocking the power that lowers your special move counter from x8 to x5), then take out the biggest threat with an execution. Repeat!
5) Unlike in the Batman games, very large groups are tough. In Batman, you can get into a zen rhythm and combo up into x100 or more without too much trouble. Here, I feel like it's much harder to see well enough to manage all the aggro. So try to fight on the edges of big groups, and make full use of environmental traps (blow up fire pits, shoot bait, etc) and feel free to stand on towers and snipe or sneak up and stealth brand Orc archers.
Mostly, (6) Have fun!
