How is combat in this game?
Is it fun or at least engaging? I know I can't ask for a God of War-is or DMC kind of combat, but I don't like floaty MMO combat and Assassins Creed combat didn't get me enough to try the sequel, just to give some examples.

It's the best assassins creed game ubisoft never made with the Arkham style rythmic combat.

It's Assassin's Creed Revelations, but with a LoTR skin. Never played the Arkham games so I don't understand the comparisons people make to it, but it's pretty much identical to AC.

It's like the Arkham games, but with a larger emphasis on crowd control. You can die almost instantly if the enemies are strong enough. They're also really easy to cheese at the same time, though. You have three kinds of devil trigger abilities, which allow you to spam your abilities continuously for a short period of time. There are also plenty of enviromental hazards for you to exploit as well. It's a lot like rock-paper-scissors. Captains / Warchiefs will be invincible to certain ability types, but they'll be weak to others.

It's a lot more random than the Arkham games. In those, each encounter was controlled, and the difficulty curve was more consistent, especially since it had various difficulties to choose from. With this game, it could easily be a poor experience if you're unfamiliar with the Arkham combat. Dying just makes the enemies stronger, and there's no way to change the difficulty. Each enemies is assigned random strengths / weaknesses. You basically control the difficulty, by killing the strong, or letting the week grow stronger.

I would suggest playing the Arkham games first before trying this one out. This is a great game, but it's a gamble depending on what experience you're looking for. It could easily lead to frustration.

Prety sure there is no 1 hit kill attack by the enemies in this game , except maybe the grey giant thing but there are only like 2 - 3 giants in each map and l'm not even sure if they can respawn once killed. Unless you are talking about the QTE thing when you ran out of HP and get revived when pressing the correct button in a circle.....

I never said anything about a 1-hit-kill.

I've been killed with a single grab in the "Test of the Ring" Trial, but I don't consider those to represent the game.

Not great imo. I will keep it for $4 though.
Very limited too. I mean, if you are going to do a hand stand a twirl around vertically on someones head at least give the ability to cause some sort of damage and not just as a counter.

It was something like that. had a busy day today. just kind of joke combat really.

I wasnt a huge fan of Batman combat either though. It was better than this iirc.

On a side note, game makers need to figure out collision with combat rolls.
Sonic had a thing but everyone now just continues the animation while the enemies look down at you somersaulting like a weirdo at their feet.

There is no cooldown time when counter buttons are press , so you can be cheap and just altenate between 3 button : melee attack , melee counter , range counter and beat 99% of mob fights.

That was waht l did when l played the xbox360 version with sub 20 fps. l cannot see what was going on most of the time due to low fps but l still beat the game by alternate between these 3 buttons. Before l relized that methord l tried to do special moves and stuffs and got killed a lot. lol
