The name Uruk, which is a Black Speech word related to Orc, related to the word "Urko" in Tolkien's invented language of Quenya. The element hai means "folk", so "Uruk-hai" is "Orc-folk". A similar term is "Olog-hai" ("troll-folk"), used for a breed of especially strong and vicious trolls capable of surviving sunlight.

Jackson's depiction of the Uruks being spawned from the mud came from Tolkien's old description of orcs being "bred from the heats and slimes of the earth." It is said they were a result of cross-breeding orcs and "Goblin-men", instead of Orcs and Men. In Tolkien's writings "Goblin" is just another term for orc.

Yeah and the OP is talking about URUK. Not plain Orc. It might be the first but it's not the last.

Saruman interbreed humans and orcs.

Orcs are corrupted elves.

Whilst never explicitly stated, it is implied that the Uruks are made via crossbreeding of Orc and Human.

Important to know that Orcs and Uruks are two seperate entities.

Uruk are not different from orcs. Melkor created orcs corrupting minor maiar, and then mixing them with all kind of animals. With time the also ended up mixing with elves and men. As you can guess from this weird mix all kind of different orcs were created, with different form and shape. Some of them are stronger and superior for battle, an elite, and these were called Uruk. And they are born the same way humans are. Forget about that stupid idea Peter Jackson brought about Uruks being born in mud and created by Saruman. It's all in the Silmarillion and the letters from Tolkien himself.

He didn't really mix them with animals.... He tortured them. "Melkor enslaved some of the elves and cruelly tortured them, turning them into Orcs."

Uruk-hai were first created by Sauron late in the Third Age. In the War of the Ring, the Uruk-hai made up a large part of Saruman's Army, together with the Dunlendings, man-enemies of Rohan. There are suggestions that the Uruk-hai of Isengard were the result of crossbreeding orcs and men. Certainly, there were other creatures in Saruman's armies, and under his command in the Shire, that appear to have been hybrids. "Half-orcs" were as tall as Men and are never described simply as orcs, as the Uruk-hai frequently are. It has also been suggested that the Uruk-hai are the cross-breeds of goblins and half-orcs. Saruman's army of Uruk-hai fought against King Théoden of Rohan and his people at Helm's Deep.
