Interesting event with a branded Uruk!
Hello everyone, I want to share something that happened with a branded Uruk that might be a glitch... I have a branded captain in Udun called Luga Blood-Axe, with the ability Gang Leader. Obviously, the gang of a captain is assorted of several Uruks that have the same complexion, face paint, etc. of their leader. After finishing a duel with another captain who fled, Luga and his Uruks chased down the captain who I bound to the floor. Because there is a number of occurences that can prompt a specific Uruk soldier to become a captain, such as killing a Caragor or captain, I had one of Luga's Uruks kill the rival captain in order for him to become a captain. After I had advanced time, a captain showed up as an unknown captain. Everything appeared to be normal until the moment I dominated a random Uruk in order to gain intel on him. What I saw has to be some form of coincedence or a glitch. The new captain, Hura the Corruptor, had the same face, weapon, face paint, and complexion of the Uruk that just killed the other captain for me. He was not branded. This means that either the game hiccuped and advanced the Uruk without recognizing his branded status, or this is one big coincedence (which I find highly unlikely due to the number of variables). I am hoping for some clarification.

Sounds similar to Prosopagnosia to me. See a doctor.
I think uruks that come with your leader aren't technically uruks you branded. They're just following his orders.

That does make sense to some degree, as of course if you look at the minimap at any time your captain's branded Uruks are classified differently. However, I have found before that by performing the same technique, Uruks that later became captains as a result of this were branded. As I suggested, this is most likely just a hiccup in the way the game processed the event.

I am pretty sure that I do not have Prosopagnosia, as I do remember familiar faces.

When there are openings in the ranks, your branded uruks can be promoted out of the blue in place of an enemy. It uses uruks you've branded specifically. I know this because I only ever brand warriors and sometimes archers, so the ones that get promoted to these ranks randomly are almost always warriors.

Uruks under your captain don't count as ones you have branded, or else I'd also have a bunch of hunter, berserker, and defender captains spawn as well. When I read in this thread that random uruks that just end up getting the killing blow on a caragor or captain get promoted, this was news to me.

I'm starting to think that might be what it is, one hell of a coincedence if it is though.

Okay. I see what you mean. But yes, if any random uruk, branded or not gets the killing blow on a captain, warchief, caragor, or graug, then there's a high chance that next time you advance time or do something of the sort he'll become a captain.
