You seem to have played a lot of hours fn the first game, does the sequel feel much different in terms of grind?
Priority is your farmhands to do the job for you so you can do other stuff like decorate your farm or quests or even let the game open and do whatever your want in real life.
First off I'm tired of the cliche "well then the game/movie etc. is not for you." It's both a lazy response at best and patronizing at worst. Encourage gamer's rather than kick them in the teeth.
Games are about escapism and this game is intended to be enjoyed at a slower pace. You can power level if you find the ways but that kind of detracts from the whole purpose which is to sit back, relax and do something that provides a challenge through patience. Some enjoy a vacation of sitting on a beach drinking a margarita and that's this game - while other vacations involve water parks and lots of wild activities - which is not this game.
This game is great for when you're tired and need to relax where the challenge is in the patience not in the significant brain drain like RTS's.
When you want to relax or are tired then enjoy this game, if you want a wild challenge where you gather and build and struggle to survive then maybe something like Valheim. Hopefully that helps in some way.
How is that "kicking gamers in the teeth"? Sometimes it is, but sometimes it's just objective fact. Like if you were to buy a Dark Souls game and then say it's too punishing, people would be like...did you read the game description? Punishment is the name of the game in that franchise. lol And it's totally okay to not like that, but you shouldn't expect the devs to alter their vision when they were pretty upfront about it.
That's not to say they don't ever have to fine-tune something that's giving a higher percentage of players a problem than expected. So the question is, "Has this been a greater challenge than expected/planned for?" And in the case of FT2, the devs feel that it matches FT1, which this person played quite a lot apparently. It would be interesting to read what they feel is different, what is bothering them this time.
Imo, FT2 is exactly like FT1, except for now being able to auto farm, which has been a huge help. That said, I wonder if the issue is the "together" part. I know I've tried keeping my farm open but very few people have actually popped in to help. I, myself, try to help others and have even saved favorite farms but I don't know if that's something other gamers are tapping into.
All of that aside, this game is definitely grindy but the only thing pushing you time-wise are events. Otherwise, you can take as long as you want. You aren't missing out on anything, like if you don't unlock the mine today it's not gone forever. I would say "delayed gratification" applies here, which a lot of people struggle with I think.
The grind is literally the entire point of games like this.
I wasn't the person you asked this, but as someone who has 136 hours in the first game on Steam, and a similar # of hours on XBOX, FT2 is fantastic. The grind feels about the same, and it is exactly what I personally would have wanted to see in a sequel.
I hope you manage to find it fun at some point. Visit other peoples farms too, that might help.
