Common issues & Workarounds

Some of the most common issues found and some workarounds to fix them:

All platforms

• Gamepad configuration: If you have a non-Xbox compatible gamepad, you can map the buttons in Steam Parameters->Controller section, as the game uses Steam controller configuration.
  
• Command line arguments: The full list of Unity command line arguments is here (Standalone player): https://docs.unity3d.com/2021.3/Documentation/Manual/PlayerCommandLineArguments.html . You can set them via the game properties on Steam.
  
  On top of that, we have some custom command line arguments:
  
  • -disableController: Disables all gamepad input.
    
  • -allowBackground: Allows the game window to accept input even when not in focus.

Windows

• Log file: If you are having issues, there is a log file located on C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\Milkstone Studios\FarmTogether2\Player.log . It may be of help to pinpoint the issue.
  On the same folder you'll also find logs of previous sessions, with the format FarmTogether2_log_YYYYMMDD_HHMM.txt
  
• Save file location: Save files are stored in the Application data folder, located in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\Milkstone Studios\FarmTogether2\SteamStorage\<your_steam_id>.
  Backups are created in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\Milkstone Studios\FarmTogether2\Backup\<your_steam_id>
  
• Error on startup "Make sure Steam is running": This error can be caused by a variety of reasons. Here are some possible solutions:
  • Some people got this error on launch and got it fixed by restarting the Steam client.
    
  • Others got it to work by signing out and back in (entering the password again) on the Steam client.
    
  • An user fixed this problem by starting the Steam client with Admin permissions (right click on Steam, "Launch as admin").
• Black Screen on launch:
  Some users with multimonitor setups may experience a black screen error on launch. It's a bug related to multimonitor and screen scaling introduced in Windows 10 Creators Update. A solution is to use just 1 screen when launching the game. This thread should be also of help, as it's a general Unity issue. • Crashes with a "GetThreadContext failed" window: This error can be caused by some antivirus software such as Avast or BitDefender, causing issues with the Unity Engine memory management system. As far as we know, disabling the antivirus while playing, or preventing it from tampering with the game executable, is the best way to avoid these crashes.
  Another cause for this error can be the GeForce Experience overlay. You can try disabling it.
  
• Can't download the game/update, Steam complains about a File Permissions problem: This is a general Steam issue that can be related with an antivirus preventing download of the files, or a folder permissions conflict. Steam Deck

• Log file: If you are having issues, there is a log file located on home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/2418520/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Milkstone Studios/FarmTogether2/Player.log . It may be of help to pinpoint the issue.

Mac

• Log file: The log file should be located in ~/Library/Logs/Milkstone Studios/FarmTogether2/Player.log . Library is a hidden folder, you can see it by going to your home folder and pressing Option+Shift+. (the dot key)
  On the same folder you'll also find logs of previous sessions, with the format FarmTogether2_log_DDMMYYYY_HHMM.txt
  
• Frequent flickering: If you have a dual GPU (such as on Macbook Pro), try disabling automatic switching on System Prefs>Energy Saver>Automatic Graphics Switching
  
• Crashes on launch:
  
  • Some users have had problems while launching. Disabling the Steam Overlay for the game seemed to work.
    
  • Another possible crash reason is to have a wrong window size that causes textures to fail. Adding the following line to the launch options:
    

    -screen-width XX -screen-height YY

    with XX and YY being the proper resolution size should force valid window size values.
• Graphical problems on launch: If the game shows graphical problems on launch (such as the menu screen freezing in place, but still being able to hear sound etc), you can try adding the following launch option (you can do that by going to the game properties in Steam, and clicking on Set Launch Options):
  

  -force-glcore

Steam Cloud

Saved data: You can check which data has been saved into Steam Cloud in this link: https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage

I didn't know where to take this so I'll post it here, I'll also email it. I've been having this one bug, not a big bug, nor a game breaking bug, but an annoying one. Sometimes when I load into my farm the opening cutscene will make the camera go static at the last part of it. I can move my character around but the camera stays looking at the bus stop. It fixes easily by going back to main menu and reloading but it's still just a little annoying.

This should be fixed in today's update.

Same here! Did you find the issue? I updated my steam deck and it was solved. Do you need an update on your computer?

No there has been no fix for this - my computer is all up todate - i can get in if i am invited thats all

not so much an issue but anyone else suddenly get an influx of diamonds out of nowhere, had about 3000 this morning, logged back in completed the barn painting (not sure if related?) and now have over 12,000. great .but how?

Look at the last update log - they lowered the cost of opening plots what you got was a refund

ah thanks that makes sense, i read the patch notes and saw about the balancing but didn't explain my sudden increase, thanks to you and the devs :)

Ever since this latest update my game has been either crashing or freezing. It started to crash only when I was anywhere near the flowering trees, but now it just freezes right as the game starts for game-play at the bus stop. I have never encountered this at all since the game was released into early access.

Computer specs:
CPU: Intel 12th Gen Core i5-12600KF
GPU: AMD Radeon RX6950XT
RAM: Corsair 32GB DDR5

i am on an m2 backbook pro and i get freezing when i tab out to another application and try to come back. it's gotten better and less frequent, since the update that claimed to address this, but it's still happening.

I am using Windows 11, and since I upgraded from Windows 10 Pro, Farm Together 2 has caused my video card to hard crashed twice in two days. I use an AMD Ryzen 7 5800x, with 32gb of ram and an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT video card. The video card is less than a year old and neither the chip nor the card have been overclocked at all. In order to fix the last crash I had to remove the AMD Adrenalin software and reinstall it to get the drivers to work right again. I only updated to Win 11 4 days ago.

My family and myself are all playing on the PC version. There are 4 of us playing. Today our games have been a bit buggy. When visiting each other's farms, we cannot see each other. Whosever's farms were on we can see them, but they are stuck in a location, but it's not where they are actually at. My daughter was stuck in the air on a sign, so I know for sure its bugged. When all of us join the other family members farm, we can see each other, just not the farm owner. We also see the farm owner, let's say my husband, in different locations, none of which he is actually located at. Hopefully it can get fixed soon. We also cannot find each other's farm, even after favoriting each other's farms. We have to join through steam.

We figured out the issue. As said before we cannot see each other to join each other's farm, so we have been joining through steam. Well, I guess we have been joining each other's farm while still in our own farm and I guess this is bugging it out. I decided to try the old way, logging off of my farm and the joining my sons farm through steam and I can see him!

Hi! Most likely they've set permissions for you individually, which override default guest/friend permission levels.
