is it worth having a bigger pond.
i read somewhere you get penalized for having more than 36 fish in a pond so its really put me off having a big pond. whats the penalties of having a big pond?

is it worth having more fish and a bigger pond or just stick to small ponds?

At first I had all the fish linked together. But since then I have separated them and I am glad I did. The penalty was steep. I am getting almost 5x the amount of money now.

So what’s the maximum size before the penalty?

According to their update notes to go with the update on May 10th,

"We're also increasing the pond size penalty threshold to 36 tiles, as well as a reduction in the penalty itself, however this comes with a reduction in the base profit for ponds. This is not to compensate for the threshold increase, but to bring their profit numbers more in line with the other types of items."

It initially was under 16 tiles per the How to Play in the game for Ponds. Check their last Events and Announcement post for their complete patch notes on that update.

ETA: So they just pushed out a new update with patch notes today so the above missive about checking their last E & A post is already obsolete. You want their post about Update #3, if you want to read about the new pond limit and penalty.

36 tiles does this mean 36 fish? sorry if my question sounds dumb. im just a little confused as it seems a really small pond to have thats all.

At 1,000 connected fish pond size you get about half the yield. If that is worth it to you, then go for it.

But if you split those 1000 fish into 36 tile ponds you’ll be back to full profit?
Mackenzie May 13, 2024 @ 9:35am
That is correct, and they will take 27 harvests and moving to 27 spots instead.

TBH, that's why I'm reading here today. I didn't know about the game when the first was out so while I now own both games, I've only played this one and trying to learn from what other players are posting here how it works by reading every topic about ponds. Actually hoping others more familiar with it weigh in. But, I read every patch note when an update is pushed out so I know what is being changed or fixed during EA. I was actually verifying the 36 you mentioned for the other poster and where you probably read it too.

My understanding thus far is each time you place a fish it takes up a tile. Like one apple tree would take one tile, one lettuce plant would take one tile. I initially had my clownfish, both kinds, in one huge pond and separated them on reading the How to Play in game about Ponds and read about the over 16 tile penalty. The Update #3 increased the tile number to 36 but I actually like the smaller ponds so will probably keep them.

NGL, going to keep reading to see if I can find more Pond topics to see if my understanding is correct or not on what constitutes a tile in regards to fish. Good luck getting an answer and I plan on subscribing to your discussion. Maybe we both with luck out with a more informed player. LOL Happy Gaming mrscjjoslin.

I have the more advanced information about the fishing pond mechanics in my Guide here on Steam. Feel free to check it out.

Ah nice Thankyou. Large nicely organised small pond fish farm coming up 😂👍
Darth Dislexic May 13, 2024 @ 10:08am
I don’t think harvesting a lot of small ponds is a bad price to pay it can still be a pleasing layout on a large scale

Thank You. "The Fishing Pond Changes" and "Profits - Fish" were helpful.

Having forgotten to check for Guides, I went to the first game and checked those and found some that may be more beneficial to me as a new player of the series. They explain the Basics of the game and that is going to be more helpful to me starting out. I expect changes between the two games as this one is being developed and a sequel but core game play features that I'm trying to understand are likely to be the same.

so with clownfish 36 tile ponds i get 1764 cash
and with 37 tile ponds i get 1806 cash
both are level 65
