Any way to read what traits or skills even do in the game?

My character has several traits and her equipment has skills but I have no idea what they do and there is no way to check as far as I can tell.

You get a short description of what the equipment skills do when you go to equip the item, but only when it's not already equipped.

The traits I believe are just for flavor?

So the traits don't actually do anything just are flavor text about your hero's personality? Mine has Nibbler, Blocky, Witless so assumed maybe she was better at blocking attacks and worse at magic or something.

I believe that's that case, yes. Traits aren't even mention in the fairy guidebook, so they're either super secret or just fun.

I think they very slightly effect the stat caps at level 1. But don't have any long-term effect on your character.
