Star Wars Galaxies

SWG back on Steam
I wonder why they don't sell this game anymore, or at least make it free so we can run servers like Project SWG and SWG EMU, or you can rent servers and eather chose the SWG Era they're based in (NGE and pre-♥♥) and allow the ower and his/her set admins to mod the server for groups like Project SWG and SWGEMU (which will most likely be the "offical" servers from now on) you can have private servers which again can be modded and you can set the era that it's based in.

Both PSWG and SWGEMU have agreements with the IP to do what they do. Allowing random people to do it will never happen.

Even their official agreements have been contested over the years, especially when EA acquired the property.
Heh, although i think when these SWG emulators officially go live, TOR will die.
Although the problem with that is EA will most likely get all butt hurt (being a bunch of kids and all) and sue.

When they go live? They are live. They have been live for over a year.

You can definitely use the SWG installation from steam (through your library) to play SWGEMU, I did it myself last week. It's pretty fantastic.
I mean offically, you know, with version 1.0.
EA can't sue, the creaters of SWGEMU and PSWG have writen agreements with the IP holders allowing them to operate. There is nothing EA, or any other future holder of the star wars video game IP, can do about them.

Also, they're non-profit organizations. They don't benefit from running these services.

They're fully playable now, bugs get fixed regularly. Content gets added regularly (I believe they're at update 6). The server is always at least 1/2 full (often near 75%+). There's no 1.0 official release, it's a constant stream of content and bug fixes from a very dedicated and knowledgable developer staff.

No reason for anyone to wait.

just a quick note, 1.0 is still the offical goal of the SWGemu although theres alot done and theres alot of fun to be had catching up with past friends and relearning the old game and helping if able with time or donations or both, The goal is to get to 1.0.

Isn't that the case for every piece of software including games?

The SWGemu will be done when the devs feel they have done all they can to achieve re-creating SWG as of publish 14.2 it is still an alpha development state project, the fact that it has more to do than most finished MMOs these days and is fun to play is just a bonuses and a testament to the awesome systems SWG had/has.

You should study copyright and trademark law. Trademark law could careless about the infringing parties status. Also go look at how not for profit organizations are set-up you may find the answers you were unaware of. I am just saying, don't kid yourself.
I'm on a macbook pro i have wineskin I'm trying to use torrent to download star wars galaxies torrent so that i can then install with swgemu and play it but I've gotten nowhere
Do not torrent swg, you need to have a legitimate copy of the disks in order to play either emulator. If you are found to be using a torrent you will be banned. The disks on ebay are like $5 anyway.

There is no trademark etc being breached, players are playing with content they own on the games original disc or steam install. This has been argued no end and there is nothing anyone can do to shut the emu down as no profit is being made from it and people are using a product they own.

No doubt by EA since it's killing their profit margins for TOR.
Heh swg won't kill TOR. EA is doing a great job of that already. It wasn't that great from the start and the latest expansion made a big mess out of it.
