Safe SWG Emulators?
Greetings all ye Steamers, how are ya? I have been doing MUCH research on swg emus, and I found a few that seemed to look good based on youtube videos, facebook pages, and somewhat from their own websites. These emulators include SWGEMU, Projectswg, and SWG Stella Bellum. However, as I looked more into the first two emulators, I became concerned with their virus protection programs. As I recall, both emulators use something called Mantis Protection. I have never heard of this software before and it reminds me of a software that I downloaded a while ago that gave my pc many viruses. I checked out the Mantis website, but It didn't seem to help. After that, I asked a local computer expert if he had ever heard of Mantis and he answer "No". So, I then tried to contact both emulators via facebook to see why they use it and how protective it is. Long story short, both couldn't really give me a solid answer. In addition, sometimes when I went on projectswg.com, the browser referred the site as potentially dangerous and suggested that I turn away from it. This happened to me with Chrome and Firefox on 2 different devices. Again, I contacted Project swg on facebook about this, and for some reason they/the person who I was talking to had never experienced or heard of this problem before. Therefore, they really couldn't help me. After that, I continued on by doing some virus background checks on swg emus. Some sources say SWGEMU has viruses, SWGEMU says SWG Legends(another SWG emu) has viruses, etc.
Later on, I heard about a relatively new emulator called Stella Bellum. It too seemed to look good(based on youtube videos and youtubers). But, due to my experiences with the other swg emu websites, I did not dare go on Bellum's site. I then asked this emulator about how secure and protected their product is on facebook. But for some reason though, I couldn't get a response from them and I found out later that other people have experienced this lack of response from them too. Afterwards, I found out from other sources that the Stella Bellum people kinda went MIA a few months ago.

(Takes deep breathe)
In the end, I am still puzzled and unsure whether any swg emus are safe to use and download. Furthermore, if ANYONE can answer any/all of the following questions, I would appreciate it GREATLY!

1. What is Mantis Protection and how safe and protective is it?

2. Which of the Star Wars Galaxies emulators are SAFE to use and which ones are NOT?

3. If there are any swg emus that are safe, how do they make and keep it safe?

4. Lastly, what are your guys' experiences with these emulators?

Hey Barracuda, thank you for responding :). And hmmm ok, so you have played SWGEMU and Legends and you have had no issues or viruses attack your pc? How long have you played both?

I've been playing SWGEmu for several years, no issues so far.

Mantis is a web based bug report and ticket generating system that the developers at SWGEMU use for tracking current issues players are having, and coordinating bugs between qa and devs.

Alrighty, thank you very much both CmdrPwn and Mr. Wim for answering some of my questions too. However, Mr. Wim, I do not know what "qa" and "devs" means/stands for. Could you please tell me?

QA would be the swgemu quality assurance team. Devs would be the swgemu developers or development team.

SWG Emu (and other running SWG Emu based servers) are almost always safe and good when you want to play on a PRE CU server. In SWG Space (JTL) doesn't work yet, but is planned in the future.

When it comes to playing NGE+ right before SWG got shut down, I highly advice playing and supporting Stella Bellum, so far everything works on test server, even space combat.

Edit: SWG Legends also works great and has a much larger community

SWG legends has jump to light speed up and running and this makes it the best in my opinion

Ah interesting, ya Ive also been seeing that SWG Prophecy might be a good one as well. But nonetheless, I am glad ro see another emu that is STILL being updated Yahhhoooooooooo!!!! Legends still requires a hard copy of SWG tho correct?

I have since moved to prophecy as Lead qa, hit me up if you have questions.

Ooof ok(thinks of many questions) How secure is Prophecy, such as virus, bugs, glitches, progress of game development so forth?
Drakkun Oct 16, 2018 @ 3:30pm
Security is our top priority, we're basically whats left of VOH before it went down. Our server host got attacked a month ago but since then we've corrected any issues that had cropped up due to the attack, bugs, there are some, but we work daily to clean em up (its still SOE code so its one massive bug lol) Only glitch to speak of really is if you're using ILM User interface the client will crash if you launch to space. Progress of the game, we've got RLS and now TCG working, and hit milestone 3 which is now the Beast Master update. Ton of content rolling as is. Looking for more devs to start with content creation such as new planets/classes/races etc. Come check us out.
