IMHO, the time will never come unless a developer can withstand the urge to pull the plug when they see their user-base fluctuate.
Yes, Ohm Studio as a software is pretty much dead. We haven't received any patches for a long time, which is pretty disappointing since Ohm has some very annoying bugs. It definitely could be improved.
While the program is dead, it still has a small but dedicated community. You pretty much can always go online and find someone to jam with.
While there's a 10 project limit for free users, you can always leave old projects and open new ones. The project won't go away and your tracks will stay.
I wish the guys at Ohm Force would improve it. I have 2620 hours in Ohm and love it to death, but it could really use some love.
I bought Sonar's Platinum Edition years ago, and to me, it was the right DAW for me all day long every day. However, I worked with ProTools, Reaper, well, outside of logic, pretty much most of them over the years.
The price of the technology is going down rapidly, and the software I paid for, while superior by far to something like Ohm Studio, cost me a hell of a lot more than free.
Exchange of files gets easier on all levels, on all DAWs. Makes it much harder, btw, to run a business mixing & mastering, since everyone can get unbelievable free or cheap stuff and think they are, at the same time, audio experts.
Anyway, I rambled a bit there, but Ohm could only survive without far superior technology and innovation, both business and product development levels, since there are no reasons to consider it even remotely unique.
That's my stance on the matter. haha
