Black Screen People, I Need You

If you are getting a black screen, I need you. Specifically, I need something beyond the dxdiag.

Please be sure you are above the minimum spec. Also, if your black screen is temporary - meaning only happening while the logo movies play (you'll be able to hear sound), there is no need to send files. That issue is known and will be fixed soon. I am ONLY looking for people who have computers at or above min spec and for whom the game never loads.

1. Go to your Steam Library

2. Right Click on State of Decay

3. Choose Properties

4. Choose the Local Files tab

5. Hit the bottom button, Verify Integrity of Game Cache…

After this completes try running the game.

If that doesn’t work, go back to the Local Game Files tab, choose the top button Browse Local Files. There might be a class3.log file in the directory. If there is, I would appreciate it if you could send that to me (along with your dxdiag): sanya at undeadlabs dot com

Also, please let me know if you have modified any of your files, and if so, which ones.

Edit, 9/25: Please note - if your machine does not meet the minimum spec, you're going to black screen. We didn't play games with you - the minimum is not secretly the average. What we listed as the minimum is really, no joke, the bare bones you can get away with to have the thing run at all and even then it won't be pretty. Many of the specs I'm getting are for machines that aren't at the minimum, and that's not something we can fix :/ Please make sure your machine is up to the task, so we can focus on fixing players who SHOULDN'T be getting black screens.

I looked for a Config file or XML document to edit the graphical settings before starting because it was just giving me a black screen and couldn't find any. So I went into launch options and typed -windowed. Game started up and its default graphical settings were at 4:9. I changed everything to high and 16:9 1080p deleted the windowed mode launch option and it just black screened again. Really don't want to play in windowed mode.

The problem with the black screen, I managed to solve the following problem occurs primarily because the game is in 640x480 resolution with 4:3 and many TV's (in my case I use a tv 37 ") it does not support a resolution so low. then did the following.

1 - Start the game normally
2 - Listen to the sound of the boot and after some time it appears a sound of falling glass or something.
3-click with the mouse.
4-press 4 times at the "S".
5-press Spacebar (Space)
6-press three times at the "S"
7-press Spacebar (Space)
8-press "D"

with this problem will be solved.

if the problem persists after step 8 try this

9-press "S"
10 - Press "D"

emu managed to solve this way.

O problema com a tela preta, eu consegui resolver da seguinte forma primeiramente o problema acontece pelo fato de o jogo está com a resolução 640x480 em 4:3 e muitas TV's ( no meu caso eu uso uma tv de 37") ela não suportam uma resolução tao baixa. entao fiz o seguinte.

1 - Inicie o game normalmente
2- Escute o som da inicialização e depois de algum tempo que aparecer um som de um copo caindo ou algo do tipo.
3-click com o Mouse.
4-aperte 4 vezes no " S ".
5-aperte Barra de espaço (Space)
6-aperte 3 vezes no " S "
7-aperte Barra de espaço (Space)
8-aperte " D "

com isso o problema sera resolvido.

se o problema persistir após o passo 8 tente isso

9-aperte " S "
10- Aperte " D "

o emu consegui resolver desta forma.

espero que vocês tambem consigam.

Er....okkkaaayyyyy, this seems more like a pc version of the original sonic ''level select'' cheat, how the hell is pressing some keyboard combinations going to fix the black screen issue, this seems like such a troll post I ain't even going to bother lol

kkkkkkkkkkkk actually this combination is only for navigating the main menu of the game as far as changing the resolution settings.

I have one of those damned Playstation 24' inch 3D TVs dunno if that would have anything to do with it. I tried all possible resolution and aspect ratio combinations.

Yea, maybe because game has setting not by default if your setting to high screen res to max but you only can get 1680 the yea you may get BLK SRN or maybe you need to revert your drives to new or older I am on 327.23
not sure if it is still 13.4 for AMD and then do it again a few more times and if your still have buggs get the driver sweeper delet all files video name and start with a new driver reboot and be done with it.
one more thing I always back my games up if anything I'll delet game and files and re-install from back up hope this helps
EDIT. if your using Windows 7 then go to start type update and make sure you up to date

you wont regret it once they fix the bugs. it was 20 bucks and its a great game. give it a bit of time it is in early access.

ill wait then to see what happens i tryed that alt+enter and it worked but was glitchy as heck cant see the map goes dark and just strange i e mailed them what they said we should so ill wait a bit before ill try to ask for a refund

Ok Everyone if you havent already done so email your class3 file AND dxdiag file (open up your dxdiag page and click the button at the bottom right of the page that says ''save all information'', when it asks you where to save it select desktop so it's easy to find, it will create a txt file with all your system's specs on it) to the email address undead sanya provided (sanya at undeadlabs dot com). replace ''at'' with @ and ''dot com'' with .com.

Dont ***** and moan about the game being glitchy and having bugs, if you didn't understand that it's still in development then you need to learn to read properly as there are more than likely several optimization issues and bug fixes that need to be found and pluged, thats why ''early access'' exists, so we as gamers who like to help QA test and improve a good game can do so, all the whining does not help.

Still need to find out why those who don't have a 2nd screnn get a black screen and display driver failures.
