How well optimized is the game?
My main concern for this game, since it is a console port, is how well it runs even on good hardware. I have a gtx 560 with 2gb vram, just for reference.

You can't really trust companies to optimize games well. So it is a wait and see for me.

video ram....

Apparently you don't know what it is if you think it is virtual ram.

It isn't very well optimised right now, but it should be better in the coming weeks.
It is very badly optimised for keyboard and mouse at the moment, and PC resolutions are pretty much non-existent.
But I think that's because the very first thing they have done is just haul the xbox version over to PC as-is, so they can tweak as they go.
They have admitted that resolutions are going to be sorted soon, and mouse and keyboard interface will definitely be sorted in the coming weeks.
It's a fantastic game, but I am only playing it a little right now because I want to play the proper version, so I will just keep checking in after each update, to see how it's coming along.
I would say if you are worried about optimisation, wait until it is finished, because right now there is no incentive to go early access anyway, other than to play it earlier than other people. The price is the same, there are no rewards or anything. In fact, as early access titles go, this is not done as well as I would like.
I mean, we are testing the game for them. The least they could do is lower the price, as they did with don't starve, take on mars and many others.

This is correct. Who could think that something attached to memory in a video card could be "virtual" ram?
It is video random access memory, I thought everyone knew this.

The game isn't optimized well, but it's still playable.

Wants 1680 x 1050 done before optimization

Game runs fine on a GTX 570. 30-60 FPS on max settings.

I'm running this on a decent laptop running a GTX460M and it runs well. It's not going to break any performance records or blow your mind with amazing graphics, but I suspect it has not been fully graphically optimized as it has some graphical issues common to Xbox 360 games (blue lighting around character, very blackish textures, etc.)

Relax, people. It's an alpha. It will be heavily optimized over time before it is released.

Indeed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VRAM

It's not VRAM anymore though - WE use GDDR these days.
