Do Survivors use guns?
Apart from shooting from the watch tower I have never seen any of my survivors use guns.

For example if you go out on a mission or just have them follow you for 100 influence points they only seem to use thier mele weapon, even if you start shooting at zombies they never take out thier gun.

Am I missing something here or is this just the way it works?

They do shoot...

1. When you take them in training missions. In second part of the mission you teach them to shoot, and they will.
2. When you call in SWAT support. Those guys allways use their shotguns when zeds are at mid-range. (And is amzing how they shoot ferals in air lol)
3. Certain survivors with certain background they will shoot if they see you shooting. In SOD: Alan Gunderson, Law Sheriff (forgot the name, Patterson i think), the ex-cop you take from Law Enclave (but only on the route to base). They stop shooting if you can control them (eg 100% friendship).

To sum it up, the only way to have firepower support in your back is to call SWAT support.

Really only seen them shoot on traning missions and when inside the radius of my base or from the watch tower. They are more than happy to grab guns from your supply cache though. It bugs the crap out of me when I want to advance to the next breakdown level and I have to manually control every surviver, take away thier backpack and fill the remaining slots with junk so they wont take my best guns from the cache.
I've never seen any of mine shoot anything, even my military Gal with her super Uzi or whatever it is ... she would rather follow me around and beat on things with sticks ... although my ammo does deplete at a hellish rate, so maybe they wait till I log off then go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with HMG's or something ...

I just rarely use guns for anything other than taking out the occasional special zed. And even then I would rather run than risk the damage. Guns and ammo for me are mainly for the outpost and for influence.
I use handguns to pop the bloaters, It's the only time I ever use a firearm ... Doesnt help that the aim cursor is crap and takes you 15 minutes just to take aim .. but thats another story ;)

I stopped collecting large amounts of ammo caches and bringing them back to base. I keep enough on hand for the daily tally and break the rest open and use the ammo. It makes using guns more pratical but I typically still only use them for special zeds as well. The .50 cal Desert Eagle(I think its called Talon in game) makes short work of most anything. I'm looking forward to higher level breakdown so I can blow all the explosives I've been saving up.

Thanks for the info, how and when do you get the option to call in SWAT support? I am playing Breakdown by the way.

Yeah, i will have to figure out a way to move my good guns over to the next level, because every gun i put into the locker just is gone the next day.

I don't think Breakdown has Swat Support as an option. I haven't finished all of the Hero unlocks, but it doesn't show Swat Support on the wiki?

They shoot if they have a firearm but not a melee weapon.

Ah right, I did not know this, I will give this a try later
I just encountered my first firearm-toting character in the game, I was sent to a besieged mission, one of the survivors in there was shooting out of the window ... First time for everything

I`ve yet to see AI emply mixed tactics, based on enemy range. And how can you not give an AI melee weapon? First of all, they will acquire one, secondly, it`s a death sentence not to have one.
A decent fix would be welcome.

I tried this and my survivor just took the best melee weapon he could find out of my stash. (which is a good (cheap) way to make influence, because your survivors will steal stuff from storage for free, and you can take control of them and sell it back)

That gave me an idea though, drop their backpack and add an inventory item to each slot so they can't pick anything up. I'll see if that works.
