This game is literally burning my CPU
I literally can't play this game so I'm trying to find a fix. Whenever I play, my Intel i5-3570K heats up dangerously. All of the cores reach about 80-85 celcius when playing on low-medium-ish graphics. I stutter, my fans whir like crazy and my CPU burns up like ♥♥♥♥, everything else is fine. I downloaded a graphics config that literally turns the graphics to lowest (it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke, I have a semi-high end PC and I can't even play this game on lowest?!) and I managed to get my CPU temps to go to 75 celcius (which is still dangerously high for a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game on lowest graphics).
It's pissing me off to see how this game is just so badly optimized. Does anyone have a workaround for balancing CPU work for this game? I know about affinity, but that won't help, since the other cores will heat up more than the rest. Is there any sort of config edit or software that would allow me to control the CPU usage of the game, like evenly dividing it or not allowing the usage to go past 50% for each core?

What CPU heatsink are you using?

What about case, and case fans?

This game can run your CPU hard.

I finally dropped my CPU overclock down. It was running at 54c while playing this game, now, it's 44c.

My CPU is AMD, which runs cooler then intel (Thermal max of 62c vs intel 80ish?).

Point being, if you're ocing, maybe drop it down some. Just remember your oc settings.

*Also, remember that since it's the winter, the house central heat will increase your computers temperatures.

Got to be said.... I've had to give up playing this game, which is a shame as I really enjoyed it too. Everytime I play it, it keeps cutting out the monitor so, one minute I'm playing and the next my monitor turns off.... then, after a few more minutes, the game freezes and I have to do a hard restart........ and then a system restore! That is if I'm lucky! Other days, my PC won't actually boot at all for at least an hour afterwards. Is it over heating? Well.. according to Speedfan? Nope.

There are things which speed fan doesn't account for, such as your VRM temperatures. I also don't think it keeps track of your NorthBridge, though I could be wrong.

I don't think VRM would be a issue, if you aren't overclocking. Unless your CPU does turbo boost, and is overloading them.

If you have a desktop, and it's having major overheating issues, it might be time to look into a good case, with nicer fans. I'd suggest Cougar fans myself.

Look into

1. CPU heatsink
2. Case fans
3. Better case
4. Moving your computer to a spot with better ventilation.

To test if it is overheating, I'd open up the side of the case, and position a large box fan facing towards it. 5 or so feet away. If it still crashes like that, then you might have a deeper problem. If not, then it is most likely heat related.

I'm using the stock heatsink that came with the processor. My case is a coolermaster (can't remember the exact model, but it's one of the later-ish ones that have heat-resistant materials). Excluding the fans that come with the PC (power supply, GPU, CPU, side fan) I have a gentle typhoon exhausting air attached to a vent slot on the upper part of my case.
My CPU is never overclocked (I never overclock, I don't care about graphics, so overclocking isn't necessary for me).
No games heat up for me (max temps I could get are 55 celcius that isn't this game, playing CSGO on max right now)

Also, what the hell is this, a 101 on how to make sure your computer cools or a complaint thread about a game being optimized like ♥♥♥♥? Does anyone know ANY software at all that could limit CPU usage?

I have a Swiftech H220 water cooling system on my 3770i OC'd @ 4.7 GHZ and it heats me to 50-55c

So yeah it does heat up the old CPU.

But for 20-30$ you can buy a better CPU fan that will eliminate your problem assuming you arent using a laptop

AMD is known for getting warmer..
Why would I buy something this expensive for a horribly optimized game?
I am literally telling you guys - there is -NOTHING- wrong with my cooling. I know how to take care of my PC.

Have to make something do the work. Most people have better CPUs than GPUs so its the way it is.

Yeah it could be better optimized tho, no argument there.
My CPU is above sub-par. It should be able to handle a game such as this. Oh well.

In the windows power options, you can cap processor utilization. This lowers power consumption and speed, reducing heat output. It will also probably make the game run like ♥♥♥♥.

Frankly, I'd pop open your case and see if your heatsink is full of dust, and make sure the CPU fan is actually running.

And you do have a dedicated GPU right? If you are running on the integrated graphics chip in the i5, that would be your problem.

I have to constantly have a home fan sitting next to my computer in order to keep it cool, and even then it still gets really hot at times, causing my game to lag and what not.

I have both a laptop fan underneath it, and a homefan sitting in a chair next to it on medium.

It keeps it fairly cool when playing games like Crusader Kings 2, but when I pop in Sims 3... I gotta set my fan to high.
Actually, I've cleaned my PC completely just a few days ago. I can confirm that the thermal paste on both the CPU and the GPU are completely fine.
I'm using a GTX 550 Ti. Not integrated.

AS for your CPU. It has turbo mode - meaning that it is essentially overclocked. I know that your processor has Thermal monitoring tech which should keep it from going past the safe limits.

Because of the turbo mode (and I hope you have not OVERCLOCKED this cpu) I would expect the temps to be above old school normals temps. Under a full load - many people get temps of up to 85 with this cpu. I would suggest something better than a stock cooler - if thats what you have. Get a Cool Master for your LGA 1155. That should take care of any issues you have.

Problem is, this is -LITERALLY- the only game that gives me heating problems. I don't consider getting a new cooler a solution.
I'm going to look up CPU power limitations.
