Breakdown has even more mission overload then the campaign.
Its absurd how fast things spiral out of control, within 15 minutes into the game I had 7 hordes coming tword the community I not 5 minutes ago joined. Soon as I practically wrecked 3 cars destroying them I already was getting warnings of infestations (?!). At one point around the first night I had 3 diffrent people asking for help, incoming hordes, and -5 for to many infestations popping up. This is utter insanity, by the 3rd morning there is so many infestations and hordes that even if I had a unlimited round grenade launcher or the super powers from Saints Row 4 I couldn't possibiliy deal with it.

I did nothing but deal with problems as fast as I possibly could going directly between them with zero time spent searching for resources, or making people happy or anything, just damage control and it still spiraled out of control at light speed.

Regarding the OP's point I have to admit mission spam is too much in Breakdown. I understand the need to keep the player active but it seems I get 3 tasks done only for Lily to bombard me with even more.

Most of the time I ignore her messages and focus on what needs doing but I guess I'd like to do that in piece and quiet without Lily yapping about yet another muppet of a teammember who got lost and is about to become zombie bait unless I intervene.

I feel like the game goes typically like this: Deal with hordes, scavenge supplies, increase influence, build outposts, find survivors, help neighbours, hunt freak zombie, go back to scavenging, do the washing up. inspire useless teammember, make the beds, sweep the floors, counsel potential suicide risk. "Oh man that was just my first 30 minutes, I'm exhausted now how do you expect to fight zombies?"

Still love the game mind you but seriously Undead Labs please tone down the mission frequency or make it an optional toggle. A mute mode for Lily would be a bonus too. :)

EDIT:
[I'm speaking here about the base game only. Most probably I won't buy the DLC because of that mission annoyance. It kinda breaks the immersion when you have to deal with Ed's fear issues 3 times a day and save at least two survivors in between. Feels more like running a kindergarden than playing zombie apocalypse.]

The zombie hordes and infestations definitely spawn faster in the dlc then in the base campaign.

I wonder if there is a way to tweak some of this by going into a file somewhere and editing parameters.

I'd be great if the developers would allow us to customize the difficulty like OnyxT says.

I agree with OP, and some of you in this thread.
I dont have the DLC, waiting to see and hear what's new and what's bad.

In org SoD, I constantly thought, why would So many ppl run out and to stupid things. It was common to see about 75-85% of the ppl in my group out on mission, in some cases even only Lily and one more left in camp. And Surly the camp would be a priority, but no. And let say I rescue someone, after that mission was done a couple of min maybe sec I had a new rescue mission, same with hunt, or take out infestation.
So something is broken in the game since, It should be as one of each mission per day. Not more. So I would love to see a mod, with 12hrs or 24hours break on a mission.

The one thing I would gladly buy the dlc was the nagging from Lily to rescue everyone.
And have leadership work with how you could organize camp. How many who stay and guard, how many sleep etc.

It is really stupid how many missions get spammed at you..
I started a new game, level 1. I got to my home and right away there was a besieged mission.

Ok i thought, i'll go help them.

On my way there, 3 hordes spawned near my home and headed for home.

I got to the besieged mission, which was only 2 blocks away and take a look at my team, 2 are away.

I'm not done the besieged yet and i got two infestations, one feral mission, an ally in trouble and a stranger in trouble.

And I still have those three hordes on the way to my home, with one of them just about there.

I finish the besieged, rush home as it's being attacked by first horde. Kill them, drive over the other two hordes and another besieged mission pops up, at the same place.

I head back there and 3 more hordes spawn on the way to my home base again. I still have 2 of my team out on mission, ally in trouble stranger in trouble, feral mission and 2 infestations...

Seriously????

I haven't even searched ONE house yet and I'm bombarded with all these missions. My one playable character (others are Away) is tired and injured.

I had restarted because on my first game, I was unable to play for two days. I left it with a good stock of all mats. I come back and I have 1 ammo and 3 construction mats left, my 4 guys are all tried due to being hungry and there's hordes and infestations all over.... I had left with not a single mission, horde or infestation on the map.

This is really stupid... Unless I have hours to devote to each gaming session and can't take more then a day at most off, there's no way to enjoy this DLC.

The main story was much more reasonable with time and semi-casual play. This was supposed to be a sandbox, instead I feel it's a fully scripted, linear game because all i'm doing is running from one mission to the next and then having to restart because I had to go to work or sleep and the simulation completely rapes me.

all that being said, I still like the game itself, it just really needs to be balanced....

I cant say that in the normal vanilla game, even after 5 play throughs did i have that many missions thrown at me compared to the DLC.

The one big difference from the vanilla version, verse the DLC. Is enclave missions, i picked up the maybe a few missions from enclaves, and it was always besieged missions. Now im getting missions to help them...Hunt freaks, clear infestations out, protect them while they loot, besieged missions, trading, and even escorting them back to their hombase.

And no this isnt me mistakening them for my own people, trust me lilly keeps yapping in my ear about them wanting help as well.

But like ive said before, maybe not in this thread but;

It wouldent be such an issue if it didnt effect your overall homebase morale. If you were to only focus on just leaving the valley, not doing one mission or another, the only other way to boost morale would be to collect supplies, and you still wouldent be able to offset the negitive values, with the postive values you recieve when bringing in supplies.

on lvl5 now, and i have good news for you people

each time you settle, you get the barricad mission and horde killing mission, plus some random hunt or similar
first hour is hectic

turns out, after you ve cleared out the hordes and the rest(clearing out the hordes is most important)

things settle down, you have great morale and, on five lvls played, i ve seldom got more than 2 missions at a time once the first rush has been handled

back to normal, rejoyce

Did 3 different games allready to understand how does Breakdown work. Never had problems to survive. Just pop in the game kill the 2 zombies and rush in a base. Next step, secure base with outposts as fast as possible. With a few outposts near your base everything is going ok and you can begin to farm some stuff and do the mission.
Don't be afraid to avoid 1 rescue mission or help an other group in the beginning, they will survive.
Missions pops really really really quickly, in my first game it was more a rush against the timer (when mission is still avaible) than a real survive story lol. In 1h i had maybe 5min to pick up some stuff here and there, the rest of the time it was rescue and help others =x
