How do you create a distraction in the game?

I'm at the bit where you have to save lillies brother, when you leave your asked to create a distraction with some fire crackers, i think i'm supose to put one in the apple orchared, but i can see no way to set it off, not sure what to do, any help pls?

select the firecrackers with the mouse wheel, then press "f" to use it

Just drive half way up the drive to where the distraction area is, get out of your car, scroll your mouse wheel to highlight the firecrackers, and press "F" to throw them, it is the same to use pills, molotovs,grenades, etc.

Alternatively, you can press "Q" to honk your car horn, or if you are in a Police car press "LCTRL" to use the Siren for distractions.

I didn't realize I had firecrackers given to me on the first distraction mission, so I used several gunshots - works fine if you don't have the other items.

Nothing beats a car horn, well many a cruiser's siren.
