I personally think no. But I'm using that as an excuse, as I'm a fast search coward.
Lots of Let's Play'ers I'm watching say it does.
I hope it's true actually, as it'd be an added incentive to fast search. Shaving a couple seconds off isn't really that much of a reason to do it.
I'm going to test this: I htink you get 10xp per search, and it's 100xp to get from Lv1 to Lv2.
10 Slow searches on a new member Vs 10 Fast searches with a different new member. No negative/positive Wits traits.
Should be reasonable to do.
New Profile - Story Mode. Marcus as default character. Lv2 Wits. Imp Wits Trait.
Immediately trigger Maya rescue, so I have a spare hand.
Do first Survey mission and Survivor search mission.
First Run: SLOW SEARCH ONLY.
20 Searches completed before Wits raised to Lv3.
Deleted Profile. Same setup again.
Second Run: FAST SEARCHES ONLY.
20 Searches completed before Wits raised to Lv3.
4 "That was loud" Zombie spawns.
Preliminary tests show:
Fast searching has no effect on XP gain.
A 1 in 5 chance (at Lv2 Wits) of spawning extra Zeds.
Combat-based Skills raised faster as a result of more Zeds to kill overall.
Searches were much faster.
Could somebody test this in Breakdown?
Lol +1

Yes indeed. However the rate at which I was finding things to search stayed curiously the same.
For example in both tests there were only sixteen things to search around the Ranger Station area before I had to go across the broken bridge. The first warehouse structures across the brigdge contained the next four, always.
I didn't incude this finding as it's not something testing twice could reveal. It's too much co-incidence. Most of the sixteen items searched were in different places too, with only a few (2 or 3?) being in the same place, both times. No items spawned in the same places either, which leads me to believe it was random. I even had Construction supplies spawn on a shelf in a cabin.
I thought you'd like that one. ;)
This ...
it makes sense. it does make improving wits faster because you cut the time to to search one box and can move to the next.
the tests above are based on fixed number of boxes looted and not based on time.
however, one has to consider the time loss when swarmed by zombies because of search crashes.
