Savini residence = great home base
I know lots of people like the Snyder Trucking Warehouse, but 1) zombies spawn in front and behind it, 2) you can't surround it with outposts, and 3) zombies climb right over those tall, impressive-looking chain-link/razor wire fences. That's especially a problem because the warehouse doesn't come with a watch tower -- you have to build one yourself, and your home base is extremely vulnerable until it's complete.

Also, the resources near Snyder are overhyped -- they're random, so sometimes it's not exactly the loot bonanza people think it is. And this may be my own pet peeve, but I really don't like such a huge, wide-open space with half a dozen entrances, including some that can't even be closed.

Instead, after looking thoroughly at both, I choose the Savini residence. It's awesome, and here's why:

* You can make outposts out of the two properties directly across the street and the house to the right of the Savini residence, creating a nice buffer zone. To the left is a bridge and to the rear is a steep, unclimable drop -- zombies don't spawn in either of those places, and they rarely wander there. You literally cannot be attacked from behind the house, and you won't be attacked from the front because of the safe houses.

* There are three parking spaces for workshop repairs to cars, and you can get more cars to create an additional buffer to the right of the residence. I've got it set up that way now, with four or five cars parked end-to-end, covering the street corner in both directions.

With that set-up, thanks to the outposts, the house location and the cars, I almost never see a zed wander anywhere near my house, and I have not seen a horde attempt to get near the house either.

Savini residence also has the benefit of a built-in watch tower, library, kitchen and bedroom. Right now I'm easily sustaining 14 survivors, with a bunk house, a medical lab and a fully-upgraded workshop. The library lets you research to make your own painkillers and stims, and you can actually "rent" out library access to neighboring survivors -- kinda makes sense that in an apocalypse, with the internet permanently down, people would need to return to books for essential knowledge.

I might try the fairgrounds later on in the game, but at this point Savini residence can fit 14-15 easily.

Im on breakdown 10 now and for the most part you always end up at savini.
Since you try to keep a small crew or go insane baby sitting(checking in..and walking everybody home)

RV station where you entered the next level is the best location! You only need to build 2 outposts and no need to create/upgrade any new structures!

ideally i would love to go with Savini wth a smaller crew as the built in Library is a real nice asset. The reasons you fault Snyder are all true as well but i usually end up there as i tend to collect survivors as there is some real potential among the usual bums. The large storage is usually the seller for me on it. Initially, yes it is THE most exposed base until you fortify and outpost the adjacent buildings - i hate wasting an outpst on the warehouse out back. If you like safety, i'd not advocate the Fairgrounds as it is self contained and safe as can be except the parking area which is outside the radius and usually has several zeds outside the outer fence, i have been jumped by ferals just going to my car forcing a reset on my missions if i get hurt - which is usually. higher levels and less people, i'd say Savini is the bet to take.

Okay so idk if this is diffon pc, but on the xbox the savini house seems to be missing the ability to use the room at the back left of the house (top left when looking at the map of the house in the build menu). It seems like a major over site on the UndeadLabs part to do that, I know this house is small to start with but it feels like that room is just missing or broken. Anyone else notice this? Don't get me wrong I love the savini anyways but like I said...

That's the bathroom. None of the bathrooms in the game are usable for facilities.

Just FYI I wrote this back in 2013 and after getting a few levels into Breakdown, I did make the switch to Snyder Trucking Warehouse. The thing with Snyder is you get the automatically upgraded workshop which can make all explosives and fix your cars, which IIRC no other safe house has.

Also, the extra space allows for the full manufacture of painkillers, while also leaving room for additions that grant buffs to your survivors. (Kitchen, workout area, etc.) When you're on Breakdown 15 and you can't move without running into zeds, it makes a difference.

I still like Savini for small groups, but if you're deep into Breakdown and you've got a team of Reflex and Powerhouse characters who are leveled up, and you want to keep all of them, then Snyder is a good option.

And finally, with either Savini or Snyder, you can cover the entirety of north Marshall with safe zones and scavenge like crazy without fear of losing your people. Savini has an advantage in regard to switching that safe house coverage to south Marshall once north has been picked clean.
