fairground homebase
hey all

i ve played 220 hours of this game, but never tried out the fairgrounds

needless to say i find the game easy now even with mods and dlc, so what i would like is feedback about immersive stuff not maxed out stuff

what is it like to be in the fairgrounds?

does it have an end of the world feeling that others don t have?
i dont care about ammo, outposts prebuilt dining room, don t care if its remote

i really enjoyed mc ready s because of the countryside and the(totally false)secure feeling it gave

the north town seems a bit empty, i hardly know the place, so i wonder if it s just a non interesting place or an eery spooky one

is being so isolated plain boring or does it give a desperate feeling?

what s the atmosphere?
is there a countryside to explore around the north town?, or are there canyons and mountains that prevent you from wandering off?

Definitely gives a desperate end of the world feeling, in part because it sucks. Is horrible to navigate, the safe is in the worst spot of any homesite as are the carparks. Too many gates. Looks crap. Survivors go to missions in awkward spots. Generally a pita.

I thought I'd love the fairgrounds when I got there. Was not the case. Its so open it does not feel like a safe location to even visit, let alone make residence. Which is odd since there are alot of great, secure looking buildings just outside your fence.

In reality its secure enough and easy to outpost. The parking is actually pretty good (once you figure out how to get to it), and its almost like having three guardtowers because your people can shoot from the fair benches.

But its not a clean defined area like every other home site. Both you and your survivors will get confused alot there.

thanks for the replies

you both talk about confusion, and thats what i felt when i played the last missons over there, in fact i once spent 20 minutes finding my way out of the fairgrounds...that made me snob the whole town

ummh

Fairgrounds is horrible.

DLC is easy? How far did you get?

Mostly I find the Fairgrounds "lonely" since most of the buildings are large and spaced apart, this not a lot of room for enclaves to spawn in. You will be doing a fair bit of driving if you want to recruit more survivors. Since there are few access points or hordes to walk through, it is easier to set up outposts to defend.

If you want to have it rough, make your home inside The Alamo restaurant at the south town, set all your outposts in the north town or at the fairgrounds, neglect the use of supressors or low caliber rounds, and let as many infestations spread as possible. That sounds like fun/hell :D

I started BD 6 at The Alamo...having never had it as a homesite before... got to make 1 outpost before the hordes arrived with a screamer. Everyone except Lily and Mickey Wilks died...we had no labor to finish building anything (including outposts -.-) and I had to retreat back to the church.

Personally I love the Alamo. But I still can't figure out why it doesn't get a dining area. It has all those tables set up doing nothing.

Yeah, The Alamo is a pain... but if you get the chance to set up a few outposts around it then it's somewhat safe. Mainly the Supermarket that's right in front of it, that's a huge safe area once you secure it.
Also I got six rucksacks of food from that place alone.

not very far,i settled at lvl6, just because ressources are scarce enough do make it fun, but, that means little, as since the first week of play, i have a no blip mod installed, and a more zombie mod that pheeeeeeeeew, at least triples the amount of Z
and a nasty mod that makes one bite critical, two scratches critical
plus, when ever you get into critical, you get(or not) black fever
so i ve been playing the hard way before dlc got out, and when it got out, i quickly reinstalled my mods that basically do the same as the dlc over lvl6(without the multiple freaks, i find them a bit off)

concerning the alamo, i don t like it much, it is the hardest base(but not really hard either if you have outposts, but i don t like the building

but back to original topic

fairgrounds
i never read anything positive about that place, there s got to be someone who loves it, i mean i love mc readys...

This^ Should have a dining area built in (not that dining areas actually seem to do anything of value), but it already has tables all set up, so why not.

I also love the Alamo btw - I go there when I want the extra challenge, though it is still quite defensible when you set up properly. Kind of amusing though how zombies just casually pop over the fence all the time for a chat, more so than in other bases.

Also becareful about driving around the home base. There gas tank around they area, if you hit it by accident it will explode! I learn it the hard way, good thing my character was max HP. He walk always from that with only 10% hp.

I have the same issue with the fairgrounds that everyone else does. I mean the navigation you can get used to but the supply runs suck as theres not much around it. But the military stashes are nice for finding meds, ammo, and military grade weapons. I have found several LMG's there and this last game I found two 'nade launchers. I like either Savini residence or Snyder. Savini is nice for a solid defensive position during the harder levels of breakdown. Alamo is a good starter base for when you move from the Church or Kirkman residence. Does anyone use the MacReady residence? I used it once and found it to be a pain since theres little in the way of outpost defense.
