Better home base? McCready Farmhouse or Snyder Trucking
Which is the better home base? I really want to max out my home base and am ready to move from the church.. I saw a lot of comments that Snyder was the best base in the game. Looking at the info I have, Snyder doesnt start with the sleeping areas that the farmhouse has, nor the cooking area. McCready is remote which in my eyes is a drawback. What do you guys think?

Snyder is one of the two largest bases " the other being the Fair Ground, which is out of the way " Snyder is also in a good location, and 9/10 times spawns a Machine shop, the other time only a workshop.

Mcready Farm is out of the way "lots of driving to everything " and smaller, it is also harder to defend from Hoardes.

Snyders has one Built in Sleeping Area.

If you play Breakdown " which has more Survivors " you can easily fit 60 People in Snyders.

I personally always go to Snyder Trucking because defending it is very easy and it's one of the largest plots to live on. Once I have 10 people in my community I dart there. With the ability to have eight outposts... you pretty much lock down the town from Horde attacks which makes your initial spree for rare ingredients (buildings and food) very easy once they're in place. -Edited for Hellrazer001

Snyders has the advantage of a full auto repair shop (nearly always - higher levels sometimes don't have it, iirc), freeing you from the need of a tools expert to be able to fully repair vehicles at your base.

On the down-side, Snyder's is bugged - your survivors will run off willy-nilly to outposts and camp there. This is a rather major point against it in higher levels. Hopefully UL will fix it - fingers crossed.

Snyders is hard to beat. Its one of the largest, its located in a very convenient area for supply runs, and only needs a few outposts to secure a perimeter, which leaves you extra outpost slots to have fun with.

The automotive shop and lots of parking secure the deal fro me. If you prefer a munitions shop it might be less desirable.

McReady's is hard to reccomend. Its decent side but remote. Which makes it both hard to defend with outposts, and a long trip to deliver any supplies. If moving there I'd seriously reccomend overflowing your supplies in an easier to gather area first. Automotive workshop is a must for there because you'll need the vehicles.

snyder is the "best base", but mc ready s has charm

Thanks guys. For me it came down to these 2 as the best bases in the early game - but after reading your comments it looks like Snyders is the clear favorite. Also, the info I had ready didnt mention a sleeping area at Snyders. Would you guys recommend staying at Snyders after the fairgrounds opens up?

For the OP:
Given the threat from hordes later in the game, I think that if you're playing on higher levels, Dante's observation is probably the biggest consideration against McReady's and for Snyder's. With Snyder's, 4 or so judiciously placed outposts will eliminate 90% of the horde attacks. You can't really do this with McReady's - there are very few places to establish outposts which will eliminate hordes.

I find the fairgrounds a pain to navigate and far too open, with hordes easily scaling the walls and causing melee battles in the grounds. Not a huge threat, but something you see far less often at Snyder's. Oh, you can plop a few outposts to cut down on this - but a lot of trouble for little reward.

The military stashes (proximity to them being Fairground's only real redeeming feature) around the Fairgrounds can be picked clean without too much trouble, so I don't think it's worth the effort of moving just to be closer to a few military stashes. Moving there is really only appealing to me if I've completely emptied Marshall and the surrounding area. By that point, it's well past time for the final fight (vanilla) or hit the RV button (breakdown).

Post your outposts like this and you're practically untouchable by Hordes.

Excessive paranoia of hordes? Why do I get the feeling popcorn goes flying as you leap up cheering this scene?

Yup. That's one way to cut down on horde attacks on your base....

There is no kill like overkill.
