Please tell me the engineer can fix the cars ...
So I'm over at Snyder's Trucking with 2 sets of beds and around 20 people and up until this morning not a single one of these bozos knows anything about how to fix a car. The town streets are beginning to look just like they did over by the church earlier, and that's to say that the area's a collection of burned out and blackened car and truck carcasses. Anyways, I stumbled across an engineer with this last bunch of survivors I helped out, and I'm hoping against hope when I reload next time around that instead of seeing cars billowing steam out of my parked car spaces, some of them will look at least somewhat fixed.

Incidentally, the Trucking campsite came with a built-in workshop, but it suggests that leaving cars parked in it overnight should improve their quality somewhat, and it doesn't suggest that I'm missing anything ... I dunno, I'm beginning to think any true mechanics in this post apoc world got eaten while they were under the cars they were working on ...

Snyder's has all you need to repair cars right from the start, you only need to repair your installations and have someone who has some form of mechanic knowledge. Park damaged cars at the parking lots and wait till the morning.

Yep, what redeyeraven said.

You don't have to build anything extra at Snyder to repair your cars, they'll repair automatically if you park the cars in the "official" spots and have a survivor with mechanic skills.

Also, I recommend just not using cars at all to kill zombies. It's tempting, and fun, but it's not worth it, especially if you're on Breakdown or Lifeline where the good vehicles are scarce. If you really need to clear a path or something, kill the zeds with the car door, not the body of the car itself...that way you avoid damaging the engine.

good hint... car door... not car itself. i will try this.

Bonus: There's an achievement for killing 100 zeds with your car door in Breakdown, and that achievement unlocks the "hero" version of Ray Santos. Good old Ray doesn't have extra combat skills, he's nothing to write home about, but...once he joins your group, he grants you the "Vehicle Delivery" ability.

It's basically what it sounds like -- press the button, and a car will materialize within 50 feet of you, pronto. It costs 100 Influence and has a long cooldown, but it has HUGE value in those late Breakdown levels when cars are ridiculously difficult to find.

Meh ... the car door idea I'll have to give a go ... as for the rest of it, I'm still hearing "have a survivor with 'mechanic' skills". As mentioned in my O.P., I have yet to find one of these people, and I'm playing the vanilla version of the game. Guess I just caught a bad break and they all got eaten early on.

I wish is was only 100 zeds with the car door, its actually 400 to unlock that acheivement and it has to be done in one go, alot of them reset if you move onto next lvl of BD.

Is it really 400? I guess it's been a while since I unlocked Ray Santos.

And yes, all of those achievments/unlocks are reset when you progress to a new Breakdown level, so if you have 390 car door kills, get those last few in before going to the next level or it'll reset and you'll have to do it all over again.

But...it's not really optional in Breakdown anyway. You really need Santos, because it's entirely possible that the area you spawn in will have no cars at all, and you'll have to fight your way literally across the map to find a vehicle.

Sometimes its bugged so its not always sure that you will get the repair.

It's not bugged, you just have to leave the car in a proper parking spot overnight. As in the game's day-night cycle, not real time. I've never had a car fail to repair at Snyder.

Yeah, I like Ray. I consider him one of my top-3 NPCs, along with Ed Jones (nimble for Ninja and Blade Specialization) and this one 'random name' female survivor who was an Army Medic and Electrical Engineer, allowing her to fill the Medical and Workshop slots.

Alrighty so I'm just curious for those of you who DO have 'mechanics' - which one do you have? So the next pack of survivors I pick up might actually include one, and not just perverts, basket-weavers, and storytellers that all tell the same story, lol ...

If you're playing the base game, everyone past the Church is random.

Also, in Breakdown, the non-hero-survivors have random characteristics, too.

Alternately or if the left door has already been "removed", you can ram Z's with the rear of your car, this way you don't take engine-damage right away. Ramming a Juggernaut will destroy your tires on the ramming side though.

The only way to kill zed by door i know is let them hang on it and push E, striking it repeatedly, until it fall dead. Not every time dead, actually. I would like to get this achievement, so could anyone teach me other ways to use door as killing instrument?
