AI companions are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STUPID
And here I thought zombie AI was bad.. your companion AI is even worse! I always take an npc companion to fill their inventory with loot as well, but lately I've had to start running at it solo because of the insanely stupid AI.

For example, the idiot AI survivor will go off chasing after god knows what while I run in some other direction. Then they yoyo back towards me, but not before they draw a whole crowd of zombies and then stand there stupidly while a horde of zombies jumps on his back, getting torn to pieces while I turn around wondering where the hell he's gone off to now. I switch characters and I see he has gone from 100% hp to 20% and half infected by the blood plague - AGAIN.

This same insane ♥♥♥♥ happens over and over again.

Same with fights inside a building. If I'm not babying these stupid NPCs they get torn to pieces because they can't fight for ♥♥♥♥. Not only that, whenever a new zombie enters the fight the AI will just stand there stupidly while the zombie runs up behind it and tears it a new one.

How could they code the companion AI so poorly? I'm so frustrated that I'm almost at the point of dropping the game altogether. It's not all the wasted bandages, painkillers and blood plague serums that infuriate me so much. No, it's the stress and frustration of having to babysit this stupid npc all the time because they couldn't code a semi-competent AI. I don't even expect it to save me, which it doesn't because there's been plenty of times they've just stood there doing nothing while two/three zombies jump me. At the very least I expect it to defend itself against ONE or TWO zombies. Instead, I am forced to either kill EVERY SINGLE ZOMBIE in sight and waste all that time/energy, or simply leave the NPC at home and resign myself to playing by myself.

I do agree with npc not been the smartest in game. But it is as in any game with bots. Bots are only as "smart" as they have made them.
Every npc, in any game have their "blind spots". Npc will always be "dumb & dumber".
Pretend you are driving a truck with trailer, you have to take out the turns otherwise it will not work.

If you did not know. AI comes to you and tries to be as near you as possible when you enter sneak mode.
Sometimes there is sync problem, you will notice this when you see npc teleporting. In this kind of situations, exit the game and enter the game again. Normally this fix sync problem.

If you fight in tight spot/situation and can not handle it, move back where you have more control and do it again. It is not always: go in and nuke them, loot, ty,bb next.

When you have aggro you can move away from them until you do not have aggro, but be aware of that hostiles tend to go to the last known aggro spot, so do not stand still in one spot, so to speak.
Or even better. If you sneak away when you have lost your aggro, you are safe "for now".
