game not working after buying the dlc

i bought the beyond the bet dlc today and when i tried to start up the game it doesnt work anymore, it used to work fine but now when i try to start it i just get a black screen that sometimes flashes the start screen of the game. ive looked all over the internet to find a solution but everything ive tried didnt work. anyone with the same problem and found a solution?

I had the same issue and the following fixed it:

1. Go to the game using Windows Explorer (most likely C:\Program Files\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\A Date with Death)
2. While holding Shift, open ADatewithDeath.exe by double-clicking on it
3. After the loading screen, you should see Ren'Py settings
4. Under Renderer, select "Force ANGLE2 Renderer"
5. Click "Quit"
6. Try opening the game again

You could also try using "Force GL2 Renderer" if that doesn't work, but I wasn't able to get that one to work on my machine.

EDIT: for more information regarding this, you can check out Ren'Py documentation at https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/display_problems.html. Basically, GL2 is for Open GL 2.0+ while the ANGLE2 is for Windows/DirectX 9/DirectX 11.
