1. Go to the game using Windows Explorer (most likely C:\Program Files\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\A Date with Death)
2. While holding Shift, open ADatewithDeath.exe by double-clicking on it
3. After the loading screen, you should see Ren'Py settings
4. Under Renderer, select "Force ANGLE2 Renderer"
5. Click "Quit"
6. Try opening the game again
You could also try using "Force GL2 Renderer" if that doesn't work, but I wasn't able to get that one to work on my machine.
EDIT: for more information regarding this, you can check out Ren'Py documentation at https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/display_problems.html. Basically, GL2 is for Open GL 2.0+ while the ANGLE2 is for Windows/DirectX 9/DirectX 11.
Is there anyway to elaborate on the instructions here? I am having this exact issue, but I'm having trouble with your Step 2, as holding shift and opening the game does not show Ren'Py settings. i have a renpy folder in SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\A Date with Death but i'm sure this isn't what you're referring to because there's no way to complete the other steps through there. The game itself does not have Ren'Py anywhere in the main menu or the settings menu.
