Using deduction space

Hello,
I am very early in the game, when you must organise an ambush to track the person coming again to cabin. But i am stuck already. I dont know how to use this deduction thing. When i push B i see some clues wiring together. When i go stay with my mouse on it it describes the clue.
When left mouse click immediatelly the other three clues there comes red stripe through the other 3 clues. . I dont think i can progress further once i know how to use it propely!. There is also no tutorial or so it is fairly complicated right before the start of game. Anyone?.
