Help With VST Edirol Orchestral
I've managed to import my VSTs into SONAR x3 very easily. and when I write notes out into the Piano roll It plays them no problem using wichever instument is in "Channel one" on the Software Synth/VST control window.
EXAMPLE of the control window

However, When i Change the channel on the inspector for the track to try and get a certain midi track to output a different instrument, It still only plays the instrument in channel one. Anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

UPDATE
While i was writing this out I ound something strange... while anything I program into the Piano Roll plays the instrument in channel one... If I drag and drop in a sample from the MIDI Library, they all play different instruments within the VST, Regardless of Which channel the Track is set to.

What MIDI file were you using? Sounds like the MIDI file has multichannel content in it, that would make it sound multiple instruments.

There's 2 different selections in SONAR. There's a track selection and a track focus. It can be kind of confusing sometimes. Double check in your console view and look at all your tracks and their assignments. It may be a little bit clearer to see where eveything is going.

In RE to focus/selection. Focus will change your inspector but selection will not. A focused track will have the name highlighted, selection will only highlight the number.
Thanks for the reply :)

Im not 100%, But I think i am doing What you have said correctly.
Here is an image of everything I see.

Ive highlighted Proof of me selecting the channel i want to play (this example would be clarinet) but The VST playing the instrument in channel 1. Anything you can see on there that It appears I've done wrong?

Im not used to this software yet so could be the smallest simplest thing.

If it makes a huge difference, When I try to Insert the synth Via the Browzer. It is under the VST2 folder, rather than DirectX folder

Try this:
  • Place a midi clip in Track 2 and place a different one in Track 3
  • Set Track 2 to MIDI Channel 1
  • Set Track 3 to MIDI Channel 2
  • Make sure there are different instruments loaded into each channel

Now try playing back, do you hear the 2 different sounds?
:embermage:
nope they both still just play the flute... It may be because the Edirol Orchestral is quite an old program. designed for XP i beleive. If you have ny other ideas im all ears, but if not thanks for trying to help :) May get in touch with cakewalk see if they have any suggetions

Are you talking about having multiple instruments in the VST? I was never able to get that to work in Edirol Hyper Canvas or anything... Is that what you're talking about?? I can't use Edirol plugs... I don't think the settings save when you close and re-open... a huge pain... like you said, dated software, although it has its charm.
