Top 10 guide to upgrading to SONAR X3
We put together a quick guide:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=205197627

Here's my 2 cents.

Upgrade to SONAR X3: If you like Music Creator 6 Touch and want unlimited tracks, more instruments and effects and the latest technologies. Easy transition from Music Creator 6 Touch and amazing intro price for the upgrade.

Upgrade to SONAR X3 Studio: If you deal with vocals a lot and are looking to for pro mixing tools and more instruments. Melodyne Essential with ARA integration alone is worth the price of the upgrade. Also includes ProChannel with 2 modules. Best value IMHO.

Upgrade to SONAR X3 Producer: If you have pro aspirations and want the best. It comes with full version of Addictive Drums, the ProChannel and 8 modules including Tape and Console Emulation, more instruments and effects. This is the flagship.

Do I use the X3 studio 'upgrade' option to move from MCT6 to Sonar X3 studio? Or Do I have to buy the full product?

I bought Music Creator 6 Touch a month or two ago, and I just wasn't satisfied. I couldn't figure out what to do, or even how to add samples And the tutorial was no help either as it so confusing, that I just couldn't comprehend some of the things that guy was even saying! I found it easier just using FruityLoops and even that's still a bit too difficult for me! As you can tell I'm only a beginner when it comes to music creation software, and I would like to know if there is an audio production software that's suitable for my skill level?

I have MCT. I want Producer. Do I go straight to producer upgrade? Or is the upgrade for sonar basic? So does that mean I should just buy producer straight away?:spazdunno:

You'll only need to buy the Producer Version. It includes everything in the lower packages.

Hope this helps.

Hi Seth. In my case I'm trying to go from MCT to Studio with the Studio upgrade, but Steam is blocking me saying I must have the base SonarX3 to upgrade.

If I understand correctly, your post above seems to suggest that you can go from MCT straight to the Producer upgrade, so shouldn't I be able to go from MCT to the Studio upgrade?

@Jeb - I defer an authoritive to Seth and the bakers ... but ...

Although it's a natural progression and uses the same Skylight Interface ... I've always understood MC6T to be classified as a separate 'product line' and therefore you wouldn't be able to do a direct 'upgrade'. Upgrade would/should be possible from Sonar X3 (Standard).

However, as a registered owner of MC6T you should currently see Sonar Studio available for $74.00.
If you had Sonar X3 (Standard) you should also see an Upgrade price of $49.99.
(Ensure you are logged on - pricing displayed is dynamic based on ownership).

What do you see from these pages:
Sonar X3 (Standard): http://store.steampowered.com/app/241070
Sonar X3 (Studio): http://store.steampowered.com/app/268291

You could do a double hop if pricing of $25 + $49.99 is displayed - 99 cents more.

Hi ShellstaX, thanks for replying...

Right - I see Studio for $74 the special upgrade offer for $49, though the $49 is blocked when I try to check out. I'm just trying to reconcile what I see there with Seth's prior statement above, which makes it appear as if I should be able to qualify for the $49 price with MC6T. If I'm mistaken, no big deal. It's just what I'm seeing in the store and what I read above seem to be at odds with each other.

You could do a double hop if pricing of $25 + $49.99 is displayed - 99 cents more.

Is there any advantage to that? Would I get both versions with different feature sets or end up with only Studio and 99 cents less?

Frankly mate - I don't think you qualify for the $49 - that's the Sonar X3 upgrade price.

Yeah - I saw Seth's post and thought ... Hmmm not so sure about that.
Check the Cakewalk Store for similar upgrade pricing - you'll see $74 for 'Any Registered User', $49 for Sonar users ... which is consistent with what your'e seeing on the current Steam pricing.

No advantage in the double hop - Studio is a superset of Standard. I only said that if $74 was not presented to you.

I've been following the pricing and promotions for about a year ...
- $74 is the lowest I've seen for Studio (and Steam says you still get the Prochannel Compressor as a freebie which is no longer offered on the Cakewalk Store).
- Z3TA+ 2 is also a very good price at present ~$32.50. I've only seen it better once ($25 on the Cakewalk Store).
- The MC6T + Z3TA deal for the same price ~$32.50 is crazy good - but you don't get a gift MC6T - it's just forfeited - so not point in your case.
- Might as well get the Mp3 Activator for $2.50 too. (cheap - less than the licence fee itself).

To be fully sure - wait for Seth's response by all means ... but if you got MC6T for a decent price you are doing well regardless.

See previous entry and await Seth's response. :)

Looks like you can go straight to Studio for $74 without the double hop.

My suggestion is that Steam should not present those upgrade pricing to MC6T only owners. The upgrades come into effect at the Sonar 'product line' level.

Sorry, there was 2 issues to your post. The upgrades are users who already have the SONAR X3 base version.

The standalone purchase versions will already be discounted for MC6T customers.

I own MCT and I am interested in upgrading to SONAR X3 Studio or above.
I notice a pack called Cakewalk - Sound Center Pack Complete Bundle.
On the steam page itself it mentions it containing All sound Center Expansion Packs and displays all of the Expansion Packs included. However on the steamprices.com website, it displays the pack as ALSO indluding Sonar X3 + Studio + Producer. Is this true or just a mistake on steamprices.com?
Does the Cakewalk - Sound Center Pack Complete Bundle really contain Sonar X3 + Studio + Producer?
Thanks for your time.

It's just the DSF Sound Center Packs. You need either MC6 or Sonar (which include base Sound Center). Even the description on Steamprices.com says you gotta have the pre-reqs. (Yes, I see the pics - wrong IMO).
