Also, SONAR is pretty finicky about multiple sound playback, so if you have online radio, or mp3s or whatever else run on your system, sometimes that can goof things up a little.
Couple places to start anyway.
For me that's why I bought a USB sound interface, mostly for playing common stuff on my integrated Realtek, and Sonar on the interface.
But if you need MIDI or better audio input, have a look at products from M-Audio, Focusrite (Scarlett line), Roland Quad-Capture...
I also installed Coolsoft Virtual Midi Synth, that shares it's output with the ASIO drivers under Sonar X3.
I am not seeing any stuttering nor other problems since I did this, though I'm running output at 44k instead of 48K.
