I'll try to correlate fixes for Jon Shafer's At the Gates in this thread so it's easier to find.

No Music

Navigate to the Settings XML file:

This PC > Local Disk (Usually C:) > Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Jon Shafer's At the Gates > Settings > Settings.xml

Scroll down to CACHE

Change <!-- Show the 'Welcome to AtG' series of popups after launching the game. --> to "no" instead of "YES"

Save the file and launch the game.

Mac Can't Change Resolution

Currently there's a bug that only allows changing the resolution in windowed mode. While in the settings.xml file, change the resolution and change it to windowed mode as well

Developer is aware of the problem and is working towards a fix

Update Your Video Card Drivers

It is important that you update your drivers through software provided by your video card manufacturer or directly from their site. Using Windows or updating software provided by your laptop manufacturer to find more recently drivers is less reliable, as they will likely only have drivers that initially shipped with the product, or will be out of date with the actual video card manufacturer.


Always make sure you reboot your machine after installing the drivers, just to be safe. Then try relaunching the game.

Laptop users should force their Nvidia/AMD cards

Use the Nvidia Control Panel or AMD CCC to force the game to use your built in GPU instead of the Intel one

Try running both Steam and At The Gates.exe as administrator

  • Go to c:\program files\steam\
  • Right click ->Properties on steam.exe
  • Click the Compatibility tab
  • Check "Run this program as an administrator

Then try doing it for the At The Gates.exe
  • Go to c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\Jon Shafer's At the Gates
  • Right click ->Properties on At The Gates.exe
  • Click the Compatibility tab
  • Check "Run this program as an administrator

Reinstall XNA and Dot Net 4.6

Go to

Steam\steamapps\common\Jon Shafer's At the Gates\_CommonRedist\XNA\4.0

xnafx40_redist.msi

Steam\steamapps\common\Jon Shafer's At the Gates\_CommonRedist\DotNet\4.6

And run NDP462-KB3151800-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe

Then reboot your computer

REBOOTING IS MANDATORY


Disable the Steam Overlay

  • Go to your Library
  • Right click -> Properties on Jon Shafer's At the Gates
  • Uncheck "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game"


Verify the Integrity of the Game Cache

If you have tried all of these workarounds, and are still having trouble running the game, or if there are other obvious missing elements to the game (such as missing fonts), validate that all of the files are actually installed properly:
  • Go to your Steam Library
  • Right click -> Properties on Jon Shafer's At the Gates
  • Click the "Local Files" tab
  • Click on the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache..." button

Post your system specs and details about your issue

It's important for the devs to know what your system specs are if they are to troubleshoot issue. Try to put a baseline information such as

You can also go to the Steam Client and go to

That window has a lot of technical stuff about your system that can help the devs identify things

Also when describing your problem be as descriptive as possible. They'll need to recreate your problem so more details is always better. Adding screenshots can also be helpful in describing visual issues.

The devs are active in fixing everyone's problems. So definitely post your bugs and crashes and they'll get resolved as fast as humanly possible.

I understand not being able to play the game is frustrating. But please be patient.
