Current thoughts on the game and potential changes
After playing through act 1 again after the update, I can say with confidence that the spells add a ton to the game, allowing you to combo off of moves that otherwise didn't have any real means of extending off of. Overall I've been really enjoying the game so far, and I don't want to come across as overly negative. With that being said, there are still a few things that stand out with the combat system that could use some work.

1. A lot of moves are really stubby or slow, making them hard or at times impossible to combo with. The launcher on the Ryval sword is short and slow enough that hitting enemies will knock them too far away to hit them with, and furthermore because it doesn't launch the player in the air it's awkward to combo with (maybe add an alternate held input which allows you to rise in the air?). The delay hit launcher for the basic sword and shield is so short that hitting lighter enemies once often results in them being too far away to hit with the launcher, meaning that for some enemies it's just not worth using, and it's seemingly impossible to follow up the delay launcher with the rising slash for the basic sword. The delay attack spin on ryval's sword is really short, which makes landing it consistently a challenge, and the forward slash projectile comes out so slow that it basically is never worth using. The air backwards projectile spam for the book feels a little sluggish. The shield bash also has a lot of end lag and a pretty short range, but that's not as big a deal.

2. Many moves result in enemies being knocked too far away to combo or too far away to use the leapfrog crystal. Using the leapfrog crystal after the book's flying kick often isn't enough to follow up on for example.

3. The camera tracking makes a lot of air combos inconsistent, as unless you're also in the air the enemies will be offscreen, meaning when using the back launcher for ryval's sword or the book the enemy will be completely off screen.

4. The hit lag on the parry is so long and the knockback is so great that not only is it basically impossible to combo with but using it will almost always result in you getting hit, so parrying is almost never worth it because of how vulnerable it leaves you.

5. No weapon swapping isn't the biggest problem, but any weapons with more specialized will definitely be hurt by this.

6. A lot of moves are pretty redundant. This is more of an issue with the introduction of spells, as moves like the book's projectiles and the yooba bow are rendered a lot less useful.

7. The earth spire spell is nice, but it would feel a lot better if the trajectory it sent enemies on was based more on carter's current location, so it could still pull enemies to you even if carter is in the air.

Thank you if you bothered to read this :)
