How do I split stacks?

I'd like to drop SOME of my stuff for my friends, not the entire stack on the floor. :(

You could just throw them one at a time.

Trying to throw one out of a time throws the entire stack when you click and drag.

Ctrl + click or Alt + click do not pull from the stack either.

Oh on the controller the RT button just throws one. Might need to check the equivalent button in the controls?
