Someone suggested keep playing to learn the game and mechanics but if it's changing that drastically to require starting a new save then maybe it's best I don't learn the old ways. It's not clear what's changing yet but it's enough to need to start a new save and more than just the new area.
They did say it will be many months so not soon but I do have other stuff to play while waiting.
I originally was thinking that, March is not far away, but they replied that it's huge so will take months, so later than March. Guessing more likely summer sometime.

Which would be more reason to play it now, I guess, if you really wanted to or don't mind starting over. Maybe if I had played in further I'd keep going but I'm not even past the demo limit of days yet. The news came out literally right after I got it.
If the news of the update had come before I bought I would have waited to buy. If they are making huge improvements, then I'd rather play the improved version. I can wait for a better game.
It will depend on the person but I anticipate plenty of people being mad at changes if they are really that major. Some people are better with change than others.
Entirely different type of game but similar situation: Binding of Isaac, the paid major updates change the mechanics and balance a lot. A lot of older players hated this so will only play the older version or complained about the changes a lot or even quit playing. Now I started playing after the last major paid update and thought it was great and it's my most played game. But I had never gotten used to things working a specific way then having the rug pulled and everything changed.
Imagine you play and get used to things then the major update drastically changes or even eliminates your favorite mechanic? Some people can roll with that, some will be mad.
So I'm on the side of, waiting will give a better overall experience. But of course I'm not telling anyone what to do. But it's some food for thought since I don't think many are thinking about the balance and mechanic changes coming but yet unspecified and are only thinking about the content.
