How to play COOP?

Sure there is. Start game (and by that I mean start A game, don't just idle in the main menu) g o to options via Escape. Choose if you want to allow everybody or just friends to join you. Then invite friends. They should have the game open already, if not, send another invite after they opened it. And done.
Or, if you rather, let them host and join their game as desribed above.
