Fencing? Do I need it?
Just starting out, planted some crops and realized the need for rabbits. Do I need to have a fence around my plants to keep the rabbits where I want them?

The rabbits do wander off if you don't fence them in. I fenced mine in, though I hear some people just got a whole bunch of rabbits and solved the issue that way
When I first started with animals, I didn't fence. I was however, constantly weeding and killing bugs. I was also having to search far and wide for my lumas, Fencing provides for targeted farming. It keeps chickens, rabbits, and lumas doing their jobs.
Rabbits and chickens search for weeds/bugs in a certain readius, so you can use fences to contain them to a specific field, however it's not really necessary, since you can also just place more of them around.

Foxes also can't pass them, so you might be able to delay goats a littlebit, but keep in mind that they can also spawn within the fences, if you're too close to the edge of the map.
