And what would you like to do with the ones you have caught?
After finishing a few of the demo professions, I'm not sure it would really fit as it's own with just catching bugs since it seems to support fishing as bait mainly. I'd love to see it expanded on to support other skills (and for those people that love to play the support role in their group of friends) but understand that there's limitations as well.
Some ideas could be:
- Catching silk moths or baby spiders to make silk/cloth for crafting
- Torchbugs/torchbug lanterns that could light up the mines without going out
- Ladybugs to speed up crop growth
- Worm Farms that produce compost over time
The more useful/non-bait critters could be spread out a bit rarer or perhaps acquired by breaking rocks or tracked by using something like "butterfly dust"?
Lots of random ideas, I know. I just love critter catching in games.
What would you call this profession?
Critter Farmer?
Bug Rancher?
Or... ?
Critter Catching has a ring to it in my ears. Might be nice to keep it more "critter related" if you wanted to add things other than bugs to it.
Totally understand the scope, though. Rattling off ideas is easy but finding time to squeeze them in is always the hard part.
While I'm not specifically advocating for it as a profession, I could see it being used within some of the current ones - like Limesy suggested, a blacksmith can use lightning bugs to make lanterns, a fisherman can use bugs to make lures, a farmer can use them to attract/repel other insects, a cook can use them as ingredients, an adventurer for potions...
The possibilities would literally be endless depending on your imagination.
Always love terrariums for displaying creatures!!!! :)
