But luma egg is not so limited, you can easily get more of them by completing dungeons and by unlocking location graveyars (where you need to put 10-14 gems into stones)
If you REALLY want both to have a companion, you can also catch a dog in the town from the start of the game (as I remember, it sits on the hill at left of broken bridge. Broken bridge will be at right after you loading Town location)
And later you will be able to fix animal shop and buy dogs or cats there for 10k each
There are also few more luma eggs, but by unreal price of 200k
You also get a dog for free if you choose treasure hunter profession.
