Was so excited for this game. Unfortunately, I'm a bit disappointed
*Edit* Thanks for all the responses. Some were actually helpful. @Lyra Never would have considered using the hoe as a sickle.

I have been waiting for this game since I seen the demo on NextFest, even counting the days. Almost stayed up until release time looking forward to it. Unfortunately, that excitement has waned a great deal. The game turns out to be mediocre so far (I made it to the forest dungeon), often falling into tedious clearing and re-clearing areas.

First and foremost, having the freakin lawn regrow overnight is beyond terrible. Was attempting to clear an area to farm and dawn comes along and undoes what I had just finished. Stupid does not adequately describe this mechanic.

*Edit* I stand by this comment. Although, I have worked around it. I just clear cut all the trees and left everything else unless I needed it for resources. Seems to keep everything from going stupid. I do like that things regrow, but make it regrow in a week, not overnight. I mean just the grass. Let us clean up our base and keep it looking a bit less like a jungle. To work around this mess I built on the beach.

Invulnerable spiders. No. Just no. When I hit one six times and all it did was stun for a second (while I couldn't land another hit during that time, not less) for it to one shot the player. Just no.

*Edit* Upgraded the whip to be ready for iron. Spiders die in 3 hits. I recommend staying out of the cave until this is done so you have a chance. They still one-shot you, but you have a chance to kill them. Be aware you cannot outrun the spiders. If you miss and need to run, then go for the exit. Trying to turn around and get that last hit in doesn't work very well. Now if we could learn to craft some more permanent lights...

Targeting is very bad. Having to cut down every fern to get to that berry or mushroom needs serious work.

Support beams should be able to be crafted on the saw, not purchased. Not very logical to have a saw but can't produce what's needed.

Gathering takes entirely too many swings of the axe or pick, even when it's upgraded to level 3 there is no discernible difference. Chop down a tree taking 5-7 swings to get 1 wood. After 100 trees even holding the mouse button down gets old. Not to mention clearing all the trash ferns. Small rocks were 7 swings. Large 14. That's way too much to start.

*Edit* Got the axe and pick up ready for iron. It finally feels like it should feel. I know that will change once I go into the forest, but for the farm it's where it should be after 5 upgrades.

Professions. You can take more than one, which isn't made clear anywhere. However, each following profession costs money. If you want a third it's $10k. The second was $500, I believe. That's a pretty steep increase in price. It's doable, but requires some work. If there are similar huge increases with the other professions it would get to stupid numbers real quick.

*Edit* Cooking, brewing, treasure hunter so far. Next profession is $30k. However, the game starts feeling more complete at this point. Cooking and brewing overlap. Fishing and treasure finding overlap, blacksmith and archaeologist overlap. No idea about jewelry. My guess is it overlaps with blacksmith and archaeologist.

Farming. Hoping for a sickle for harvesting (also, for cutting the super-grow lawn). Pulling each crop individually is okay for starting but should quickly be put behind as a tool becomes available to do it more efficiently. At this point farming takes too long. Get the rabbit coop to take care of weeds, and the chicken coop to take care of beetles as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, the five day limit on the demo wasn't long enough to identify these...let's call them missteps...in the game play. The game as presented today is what should have been the demo so the team could receive proper feedback. Sadly, this leaves the game feel like it's unfinished/unpolished. I'm considering putting it aside to check it again in six months hoping for improvements.

You are supposed to be able to kill spiders now maybe you need to a find a better weapon or upgrade the whip to a certain level before it can kill a spider, and the spiders where always one shot kills on the player even on the demo, but they have removed the lost of death mechanic now, also I know there is better tools you can get I’m guessing the usual bronze iron gold iridium style where things chop down a lot quicker

Spiders aren't invulnerable. You can 3 or 4 shot them with an iron whip. They don't even get near as the first hit stuns them. You can literally just hold down LMB with an iron whip and they're done.

I agree that wild plants regrow way too fast

Dude is trippin... Spiders aren't invulnerable and death doesn't have much of a consequence anyway.

spiders will absolutely just one shot you at the beginning. i just had my first death and i was whacking on that spider 5-6 times cause it got a bit stuck on a rock but as soon as it hit me i died instantly. this definitely needs to be fixed. i should not have to upgrade anything in order to kill the beginner spiders without getting 1 shot every time

The hoe works as a sickle when harvesting.

Personally, I think it's awesome that resources regrow. it makes the world feel alive.

You'll get stronger for battle with the spiders as you get better upgrades.

Gathering money isn't so difficult, and with 2 professions, gathering the 10k should be quite simple.

Trees could give some more wood. Giving one piece per tree does feel a little stingy. But maybe better tools will get better results?

Support beams could be available for crafting or purchasing.

It could be made clearer in-game that you can take all professions eventually. I've seen the devs stating it online.

Yeah by the time you’re towards the end of the forest zone and have been keeping up with upgrades, using the axe on the farm is crazy fast and you can generate all the wood you want.

I think the game design needs some gold sinks.

Spiders always one shot you, you don't really have health in this game. That said, they are not invulnerable, they just take like 7-8 hits. The key is to kite them around a rock, because you can swing through rocks and they can't. Or just avoid them. They only spawn when you hit the crystals or proceed very far through the cave.

Anyway, I also have a criticism about the game, which is just that it's somewhat too simple. You have only 1 hit point. There's only 2 types of enemies. Nothing at all happens if you die, making combat feel pointless. Everything you can craft with your profession exists only to sell, which makes the professions functionally interchangeable. Luma Energy takes way too long to collect, especially in multiplayer.

I wish that the professions could create things that were useful in some way, for example you could eat the food you make for various buffs (ie, move faster, break things faster, have an additional hitpoint, etc), the blacksmith could create / improve tools, the treasure hunter gear can be worn and provides some advantage, etc. That would make me want to learn multiple professions a lot more.

I think that there are a number of aspects to this game as it currently stands (too quick regrow, unbeatable spiders early on, laughably low resources like a tree giving 1 or 2 wood, maddeningly slow movement speed, etc. that will simply drive players to use mods (there are already several for torch life, resources, movement) of just using cheats.

Try to make stone roads at your village to prevent regrow. You can use crushed stone on the earth to make it stony
P.S. Didn't test, just info from the tips
