I'd give my left ### for a remake of that game, and fishing resort. 😀
FL (god tier game) had a sort of underlying plot/story that really meshed well with everything and actual NPCs with personalities. This is mostly open ended, grinding for the sake of maxing every job out. It's shallow in a sense that the recipes you worked to get, the time you take to craft them is just to sell for more money to get more recipes. You can't even eat the dish you worked hard to fish and cook. It's purely to sell.
The gameplay loop is the same for every job too, which did get rather boring after a while for me. I thought there'd be way more stuff out of the demo but from the videos I've seen it's just the same thing but more tiers of grind to do. That's not a bad thing depending on what you like.
I think Josh compared it to Fae Farm which I gotta say was a good comparison, if you've ever played it.
More fun once you get the water hose lol farming is a breeze to be honest on this game, especially once you start finding everseeds of a type of crop just replants itself after harvest lol.
That was exactly the point I made in another post earlier today. Content for the sake of content doesn't make a game good or even fun. There needs to be a story to the game, and an outcome.
I bought a game by a new independent developer on the basis that it was a mining game. A casual mining game. The game lived up to the way it was presented, and it actually offered a bit more than just mining. Eventually, the developer made the mining "infinite" so that the various levels of the mines kept replenishing in such a way that enabled the player to keep mining... eternally. He also worked in a story that was actually pretty intriguing - a bit of a mystery - for the player to solve while he was exploring the mines. Each mine level had about a dozen or so unique caverns that you could explore. Those caverns often contained clues to help you solve the mystery.
On top of all that, the developer added the ability to customize your underground base and even decorate the interior of it.
I really like the game, and I still play it now and then. But it still isn't perfect because really, the only thing you do all through the game is mine, mine, mine. It would be nice if there was a bit more variety than just that. And a REASON to keep mining.
The reasons; the goals and the rewards of the game, must be relevant and also alluring to the player. The developer needs to understand that what interests him may not be appealing to the entire body of his players. He has to be able to get into the heads of his players and see what they want. It's not the easiest thing in the world to do, but if you succeed, you end up with a game that gives MOST of the players what they want, and thereby keeps them playing.
Fantasy Life? In which aspect? Fantasy life has a plot, good characters or at least funny ones, good ginding, good combat, and the jobs in FL are meaningful, while the jobs in Luma Island are absolutely meaningless and useless, the NPC are as bland as one can get, the grind is insanely boring, the combat does not exist. In fact, you don't have stamina or HP bar... This game is not shallow, it's boring and it's meant to be boring. Played 1.5 hours and refunded it.
Ive played over 20hours of it so far *shrug*
It is definitely somewhat on the repetitive side and I think it would have little replay value after you finish it, but it's an all right game to spend some time on with a friend.
it is nothing like fantasy life.
sure you got different classes to choose from but thats that with this game its an udder grindfest for nothing rewarding. everything is just cosmetic for the amount of materials needed for anything. fantasy life actually had a good story crafted items had a use. luma island is a trash game thru and thru.
