Item dissappeared

So here I was, tossing a hook hand into my item bath, when I got the bent nail I needed for the request. I tried to take the hook hand out of the bath... only for it to disappear entirely. Is it gone for good?

Did you check your bag? Or try clicking around the soaking tub? I noticed that sometimes an item will clip in or around the soaking tub and you gotta just kinda click around to pick it up again. Otherwise if it falls through the map it's supposed to show up in your inventory. As janky as the physics are in this game, I think I've only ever actually completely lost a couple items at most.
