It's getting out of contorl with prices.
Planetary Annhiliation had a full funded kickstarter and yet it's early access was near £40.00, now this game, which I was very much contemplating adding to, is set at £35.00. I thought Early Access meant it was free to help the developers find bugs, apparently not. Why do the insist on pushing prices so high when they've already recieved funding from external sources like the players?!

45€ dafuq
If you'd looked you'd see this is effectively the 60 dollar backing level from the campaign, so that they could offer it directly rather than only through their site without screwing over the people who already paid this much to have beta access. Plus there's a pile of other stuff included beyond just beta access which is also part of that pledge level.

Yes but people who fund kickstarters do so to see the game developed, now thats done, we should be allowed to Beta test for free and then have to pay for the full game later. The idea of free betas is that we get to see the game aswell before buying it.

They pay the kickstarter to see the game made and get the game fully once completed with bonuses like free expansions and forum titles: We play the beta and buy the full game if we want to.

Steam users get exactly what the $55 tier backers get, so they have to pay the same to get the same. Makes sense, right?

Would the backers not have already had a pre-release alpha? they're probably entitled to any further expansions, they'll have certain benefits in forums and have their name in the credits (though you'd argue it doesn't mean much) so we pay the same for an incomplete game with no bonuses.

You pay (almost) the same for the same.
Pledge $55 or more

Steam users obviously won't get a DRM-free copy, but besides that they get exactly the same.

Not for this price.....

Quote "Steam users obviously won't get a DRM-free copy".

Why?

DRM with Steam is optional, it's up to the publisher in question. Steam can be used as just a distribution and patching tool, with no DRM attached. (Some games will launch by running the exe's directly, without launching Steam first).

How many early access games are free on steam none I know of, this is not the only game thats priced at the same as kickstarter investers paid Grim dawn is another and also a great game in making thats going to be cheaper on release .

Its up to the developers what they want to charge and us what we are happy to pay I am simply at a loss to understand what people are moaning about if its not your sort of price now buy it later ,early acess is not the issue its what value you put on playing the game as it is now thats up to each of us to decide .

They are pushing prices high because they believe people will pay those prices. The more people pay for early access games, the more devs will charge for them. You know what scares me? The possibility that such a trend will wreck the quality of game development across the board because early access games lower people's expectations of a product. You see the excuses. "It's early access, so such and such flaw is okay!" It's a win-win for the devs, whether they ever put out a decent game or not. Meanwhile, other game devs are striving in competition to put out extraordinary games that are fully developed upon release, with deep storylines and hours of rich gameplay *for the SAME price*. When are those game devs going to look over their shoulder and think, "Why are we striving so hard when we don't have to?"

There is also a lot of poor games released at top prices that are complete Rebirth to name one .
also the 2 games that I have mentioned this and Grim dawn are by two proven developers the team behind GD made Titan quest and these the original wasteland its up to each of us what we pay and this game will be cheaper on full release and if its great not many people will be moaning then just gloating that they waited and thats fine by me but respect your views .

Comment makes no sense just buy when price is lower on release or as most of us do with many games in steam sales at a later date its that simple .
Alex_SM Jan 4, 2014 @ 10:12am
Price is the exact amount people paid in the KS campaign to be allowed to have beta access. Because devs think it would be disrespectful to those who made the game possible to make it cheaper now than what they had to pay.

You wan't it cheaper? Wait for the release date, and the full game. It's a win-win situation, no gamebreaking bugs and cheaper.
