There's an in-game hidden cache which is an Easter Egg referring to a real-life mass burial of video game cartridges. You'll understand the alien connection when you find them.

It's a joke about the old E.T. Atari game and how they buried thousands of copies in the desert after nobody bought it since it was so badly made. It's useless junk, save 1 for later on when *someone* may want it but otherwise they're junk.
