Red Baychowski question (spoilers)

So I picked up Red Baychowski in Damonta and agreed to split this treasure with him. Right after that I met the werewolf guy, got the key to the radio tower via a speech check and installed the thingie. Now it turns out I'm supposed to babysit this suicidal 35hp guy all the way through Damonta to Silo 7. I'd just go straight there, but if I try that, as soon as I hit the world map the werewolf guy starts screamng at me about abandoning the town.

So here's my question: can I just ignore werewolf radio guy, do Red's thing at Silo 7 to get rid of him and then finish up Damonta? Or am I stuck doing every quest in town (including killing all the robots) with Red tagging along before I can do that?

The situation in Damota is an emergency and needs to be resolved before you leave or everyone dies.
It isn't necessary to destroy every single robot group as long as you help the people who are in danger and kill the boss.
