Problems in California - spoilers follow

I convinced Manners to eat meat. I also wrecked the fridge per the doctor's "request". He fails to notice and still won't offer me the microscope. I stole the microscope and went back to Rodia.

In Rodia I went back with the microscope. When I went to the distililery I was attacked on site and was unable to have a dialogue with anyone. I didn't pay the fee on the way in and didn't realize that this would be a real problem later. To move forward I need to get the empty canteen and there is no way to do it but to kill all the denizens of the distillery including the son.

Any ideas as to a) how to get the microscope from the AO doctor and b) how to get the dialogue options in the distillery?

In addition, I have brought back 5 bags of kitty litter as requested and now Woodson wants 8 more. Is this a bug?

If you steal the Microscope from AO you can't return it later. If you can't Smartarse the doc or plead for his mercy in Angel Oracle to give you the Microscope it ends there.

In Rodia, before you defeat the boss of the Leather Jerks and free the Mayor, there are more seemingly hostile npcs than just Leather Jerks, even though some of them are actually civilians.. You have to be a bit careful about who you kill.

You need to find 56 lbs. of Cat Litter and since there is only 8 lbs. in each, that's seven bags you need to deliver.. Each bag is marked as a Quest Item.. Empty bags doesn't count. If you've already brought back 5 bags and he request 8 bags more that's definitely wrong. Are you sure he isn't just saying that he needs 8 lbs. more?

You are right. It was 8 more pounds not 8 more bags. I have actually given Woodson 6 bags so I need one more.

Re the doctor in AO, I don't have any options to beg or use Smartarse. Have handled his problem, also killed the fridge system but all I get is the option to get care.

Is there a way to get the empty canteen without killing everyone in the distillery?

RE: distillery I was able to talk to the the leather jerk leader and he let me walk around freely in the main room with the promise to hurt me if I go into the backroom. That does mean paying the big pink girl at the gate the bullets she asks for though

I also have just walked through the sewer that links to the bank and there is nothing in it that would explain anything. REALLY don't want to replay all the way back to the beginning of Rodia.

Just a question, why do you need the empty canteen? I always shot all the jerks on Rodia and was able to help the doctor cure the plague and free the town just fine.

Well the sewer leads to the bank vault that is only really useful to get the booze recipe that the Mayor asks for help with once the leather jerks are kicked out. But the Mayor only offers quests if you don't kill the guy in the backroom of the distillery because it is his son.

Sorry to say but if you want to make the most of Rodia's quests you can't kill anyone on the first pass through. You can kill the jerks indiscriminately later once you have had a chance to see what help is needed in there.

If you don't get the empty canteen, how do you get the doctor a sample of the bad water?

You don't. You have received a hook. Fish out the body in the well and tell him about it. =]
I believe that canteen is related to something else entirely. (you can get the contaminated water with it and give to one of the jerks to get him poisoned) ; ]

Ok - so I have done that and fixed the plague but now I need the radio fixed and I have no way of talking to Dengler. He just attacks.

As for Angle Oracle, I just did that quest today.

After you disable the fridge, head outside the stadium. Just to the right of the entrance(left of it if you just zoned in), you will find a hobo, talk with him, then go back and talk with the gate guards outside the AO. If you mention the hobo, they grab him and take him to the doctor.

Now go to the clinic, try and talk with the hobo again, he won't say anyting, but the doctor will mention the word "Sick". Talk to the doctor about it, and you'll have your evidence to present it to mister manners. Go see Mister Manners and tell him about this new development.

Mister Manners will then agree to stop serving the "meat", and all you need to do is find another supplier of beef in the california.

Enjoying the game but I have found that if I do things in the order that things occur to me, rather than the order that the game is expecting, I end up in weird situations. Has happened a few times.

He's in the back room of the middle building where he was when you crashlanded into the area.
