pistol pete and Roda
I just had pistol pete joined me who seems mostly usless.

I enter roda and see a cut scene of a leather jerk killing an old man. The jerk asks for 6 builts for entry , I say no and a fight starts. All done.......

Then I wonder into the camp with the help of a rocket and wonder around to the right and find a distilary ...every one atttacks me incluing the workers..I feel a bit bad killing all the workers but they attacked me..

Then I walk in the back room a slepeing couple.. they attack me and quickly die.

Have I missed a mission.. this whole area charcters just attack .. they are pretty weak and its fairly easy....

Should I have paid the builts.. by killing the guarded have I scewed this zone up?

You haven't screwd it up, but since you angered the leather jerks you may miss out on a few things.

I fought my way inside too, but instead of exploring I went straight for that walled off area just inside and rescued the guy inside the cage. Hey, turns out he was the mayor.

You get a lot more XP by killing the Jerks than doing the sidequests in town to weaken the Jerks first.

On the other hand if you pay the entry fee, you can give a candy bar found in a toaster at Angel Oracle to Brutis(? or whatever his name) the personal guard of the Jerks leader for a Brute Force book. The Banker wants a glass bong from a toaster in Hollywood for a Barter Book.

Personally I went in peacefully, did a few quests (got the brute force book but not the barter book) and then released the mayor to kill the jerk leaders.

Oh oh.. you killed the Mayor's son, he won't be happy... I did that on the first game too. If you go in peacefully, you can also.. disable some of the muscles before you decide to take down the scrawny boss, and you don't have to save the Mayor for that... Seem like there's a few way to end this.

Before anything else, perhaps try learning to spell.

Perhaps the rocket caught an innocent.

I figure that the most Ranger-ly thing to do would be to take down the Jerks rather than negotiate at all with them, and if you're careful about whom you kill the rest won't have a problem with that. Perhaps you block off some quest rewards the Jerks could have offered, but I'd rather play in character.

(And, seriously, any idiot who demands free bullets from a heavily armed band of strangers is literally asking for it... Seriously, see the multiple people with automatic rifles w/ large scopes and laser sights, the sledgehammers, everything? They're trouble.)

Shot the Jerks at the gate, methodically moved through the town and a few buildings killing anything flagged as hostile, *then* freed the Mayor, killed Dengler, and the Mayor's happy, Doc's fine with me, the casino clerk apparently doesn't give a damn either, Virgil and Dante mostly ignored me once I got the two to work together again.

Didn't attempt to enter the distillery, though, nor did I break into peoples' houses -- I'm playing Rangers, not robbers.

The main oddity is that now there's nobody working at the Bank, since they were all aligned with the Jerks, so there's nobody standing around e.g. to tell you to stay away from the vault. ;)

So you *can* use firepower to cleanse the town, but you do have to be discriminate.

I could never find Dengler to inquire about the work anyway. I think he might be in the mayor's office, wherever that is.

First time I went into Rodia, I paid the price to enter. I was wandering around, and found the Leather Jerk boss before I even found any quests. Since I had Pistol Pete telling me how bad he was, I just offed him. Wandered around and there weren't any more quests except the disease, but everyone was treating me as if I'd done quests for them (without giving me any rewards or XP). So I started over and did it the long way. After doing it the long way, I did find out that just wandering in and killing the boss has the same positive end as doing every quest.
