Rodia
Is killing every jerk in Rodia the only solution there? Quite a huge number of them...

I didnt think there were that many Raiders there. I kinda layed waste to them. I think you can do some quests other than kill the Raiders though but I didnt pay the door fee.

Killing raider is a good thing :v You get the exp and the loot. You also get the satisfaction. If wasteland has ranger olympics, killing raider would be one of the sports to compete in.

If you play nice and pay the door fee, you can go to the mayors office and kill the leaders there. Once I did that, the rest of the jerks ran off. Some townsfolk seem to be able to help you put a couple of the leaders out of commission before engaging the "top dog", but I didn't bother. I wanted them all there to witness my badassery

If you kill Dengler and his cronies the rest will run off. You can weaken 3 of the big jerks before the battle, and have the maid lock up some others. You can get one of them incapacitated, one of them you can give drinking water infected with stomach parasites, and another you can feed bad opossum meat.

Check your memory, Rodia is after leaving Arizona :)

I did not pay at the gate, so I had to kill the jerks guarding it. I then killed a couple of them just after the gate, then went and freed the mayor, which attracted the leader and his cronies to attack me. After killing them, it said the rest ran away (I did not know how many others there would have been).

I think I did Rodia MUCH differently than the devs intended or expected - I didn't pay the fee, then headed left once I finished off the opening area. I pretty much killed every single Jerk after that without ever initating any dialogue with anyone other than the Doc and the bartender. There were no Jerks left when I finally found Denger and his #2 guy. The very last thing I did before heading to the crater was free the Mayor, and he was none too pleased that I killed his son in the Distillery (whom I had no chance of dialogue with either - as soon as I opened his door he came out attacking). I seem to have missed a lot of different options by playing through Rodia this way, will definitely try it differently in my next playthrough.

Yeah, I think Rodia is bugged... sadly. There were some important characters, like at the bank, who I killed because I thought they were enemies (red names). Like Mr. Gekko... Why were their names red and running around calling me a murderer when I was killing the bad guys?

Well Gekko is no an a 'good' guy, he is perfectly fine that the Leather Jerk have over-stepped their initial mandate and take control of the town, as he is benefitiing from it.

I am playing this now in my LP and so far I have taken the avoid conflict route [weakening the leaders key supporters, helping to cure the parasite plague and so on]. Not ultimately I will have to kill off the leadership of the Leather jerks but wanted to explore the story elements first.

Nice thing about Wasteland 2, there does seems to (usually) be more than one way to skin a cat. I was so tempted to just shoot the Leather Jerks at the gate, oh so tempted :D

Peace,

Mal

badly set. i also opted to pay my entry fee in lead, and after tripping past the corpses found myself at the gate and fighting the 'final battle' for Rodia. like, two minutes after entry. then wandered about to discover all the stuff that got broke. people kept talking about jazz i'd never heard about or congratulating me for getting the recipie or clearin' the bar, or etc. like i was their best friend or a long-time resident.

thing is, i didn't score points for any of the side qest victories even though i was doing the job they woulda sent me on had i gone "the other way". none of my Rodia accomplishments showed on the ranger ledger of missions & victories, so i guess i'm gunna haff to do the whole danged thing all over again. it's like Rodia can't reconfigure itself to account for an "alternate gameplan" despite practically handing that path to you on a silver plate.

I'm bumping this post to anybody that might be playing this game recently and didn't know. Unless you want to completely wreck your game, when you reach the town of Rodia, just pay the Leather Jerks the six bullets at the door.

If you do not, then this turns every Leather Jerk AND their allies hostile to you. For example, every Casino Worker and Distillery Worker will attack you on sight. While this seems like great fun (it's actually really tedious after a time, and a huge waste of bullets and healing items), this CAN break your game.

For example, in Dr. Horchata's hospital, one of the beds is occupied by an ally of the Leather Jerks--I think his name is Hard Eight. So if you open the curtain, then it immediately takes you into combat. However, the game doesn't recognize any valid targets for you to hit. Then on the enemy's turn, the bedridden enemy can't move or attack, so combat never ends and you must reload your game.

Also, my game broke so bad that I couldn't even enter the administration building where Dengler is hiding. I had lockpicked the front door, but I couldn't enter it as there's an invisible wall on the doorway. I suspect this is because the game expected me to release the Mayor from his cage first, and this is the only way to solve the town's leadership issue as every other NPC is hostile to you.

You can also enter Rodia without paying any bullets by giving them the Rodia Ticket that was given to you in Angel Oracle (by Lindy Lou, I believe).
